January 21, 2008 · 12 Comments

Alright Mappers, Modders, and future designers; We just released the full set of mod tools for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on the PC, which includes just about everything you’ll need to create custom maps or mods you can think of for the game.

I’ve already been seeing a lot of cool stuff coming out of our Mod Tools beta testers, so I honestly can’t wait to see what comes out of the community as a whole. First one to mod Attack Dogs into MP wins!

To download them, visit any one of the several mirror links that have posted the tools:

As additional links come in, I’ll be sure to update the list. In the meantime, for specific information about the tools and how to use them, please visit: http://www.infinityward.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

We set up a wiki specifically to help you and introduce you guys to the wonderful world of COD and modding for it. At the moment it has some basic documentation, ‘How To’ articles, and helpful insight into getting started. The IW-iki will be continually updated by the team here at Infinity Ward with more tips, tricks, and general knowledge on how to use the tools to their full capabilities.

If you run into any problems or want to seek out fellow modders using the tools we have a new sections set up in our forums for just that, join in on the conversations here:

That’s great that you guys release fresh content for your games, and CoD4 is great, but I am still waiting for the 360 version to be fixed. I would think fixing a broken game would take priority over new features. I was playing just the other day when I got an error reading that some character had more than 128 bones. I constantly get the little “connection interrupted” message. Connecting to friends’ parties often fails, and getting a party into a public game together usually fails. Every game you go on you hear someone say “back out”. That means some of the party members got a “cannot connect to server” error. Every time I try to play with more than one person in a party it takes about 30 minutes to even get to actually play a game because of all these issues. Please throw us a bone here.

The Patch for both console versions has already been taken care of and is currently going through the process to be released (QA + Cert).

Which came first before anything else (including Mod Tools or the upcoming Feature Patch), they just don’t get released first because something like Mod Tools can be released directly from us (Infinity Ward) without extensive QA + Certification.

The Patch to address bugs will be here shortly and is already completed.

Thanks for the quick response! I can’t wait until it’s all working smoothly.

EPIC allowed moding on PC to be also used on the Ps3. When you guys get to work on CoD6 do you think you can throw this suggestion in there. Mods keep the game fresh for years. Thanks for the update!!!!!

Any chance of ever seeing user content on a console platform?
Sorry if you posted the answer to this question on other boards. =]

This is really what pc gaming is all about. Good stuff BTW!

IW should run a contest for the best user created maps and then put together a package for console users of the top few.

This would generate a ton of interest in the mod tools, would stimulate a lot of new quality maps being made, and would be a first game on Xbox Live (that I know of) to do something like this which would generate a good deal of press.

In addition, it would take some of the load off of IW as they can’t churn out enough maps to keep up with user demand. People are already clamoring for new maps and the game hasn’t even been out that long in the grand scheme of things.

Map makers get a chance to show off their skills and get some publicity, IW gets good press, console gamers get new maps…everyone wins!

Microsoft is the biggest stumbling block…past history shows that M$ wants to get paid for DL content. I don’t know the ins and outs of how M$ runs their DL content, but it would certainly be kick ass if all of this could actually be done!

will we be able to DL the custom maps/mods? on to the 360? kind like halo is doing where you can go to there site and d/l it onto your 360 then when you turn the 360 on it would start to d/l it?

Will the upcoming bug patch be just for connection problems (which are non-existent for me) or will it include sniper/acog fix, and host migration? And this feature Patch is the one you gave us a heads up about a while back, Correct? New kill-cams and such.

Please go to hell with your empty promises.

Your taste in videogames is awful. You’re not even a true gamer just a moneyhungry manager who talks like a snake and has a dirty taste for dr. pepper. We will never forget.

    How you doing Fourzerotwo,

Oh man where can I start!! Great game IW, a true achievement in first-person shooter war videogames. My son just came back from Iraq and he is absolutely in awe with this game. The single player had him in tears, because of Scenarios and events he experinced at Iraq. When he played online, he asked me how can the eotech scope be unlocked. Well, I told him he couldn’t…which brings me to ask you guys. Its there any future plan for IW to release some kind of variation of this scope?

    Thank you for reading Fourzerotwo,
