Great News! The new feature patch I talked about last week (with new Kill Cams, Host Migration, and other new features) for the Xbox 360 has finished it’s internal testing and development and has officially been sent off to Microsoft for Certification. It’s only a matter of Microsoft putting it through the certification paces and it will be available for download for all Xbox 360 players.
If you forgot, keep reading to re-cap on all the new features this patch brings to players.
As for the Playstation 3 version of this patch, it’s currently finishing up it’s final internal testing (which I’m expecting to go very quickly) and should be heading off to Sony for it’s own certification in the near future, I’ll post that and full details on what that includes when that time comes.
New Kill CamsWe’ve added new Kill Cams for everything. So now those “WTF!” grenades that seemingly come from no where, you can see that a guy threw it over the house, it hit a tree branch, bounced off a rock, into a tiny window, where you happened to be pointing out of, and say…… whoa. Follow behind RPGs and M203’s kill cams, claymores, Airstrikes where you can follow the bomb from the plane until it hits you.
Host Migration:
Now you won’t have to be dropped back by yourself when a host leaves. Instead, everyone will stay together, a new host will be assigned, and the game will auto-start back up. Keeping everyone together, no more re-inviting, re-joining games because some host leaves. This has been a tall order and something that we’ve put a lot of work into which has allowed us to really optimize online play all around not just specifically with Host migration.
Improved Sniper / ACOG Accuracy:
Sniper and ACOG scopes have been tweaked and are really improved. I use to not snipe at all (mainly because I’m a horrible sniper), but now it’s so much more fluid and natural, while still having the same difficulty to use, it has no more “WTF I know I hit that guy!” moments.
Upgraded Spectator Cam:
Now when you’re in spectator mode you can follow them in 3rd person, switch to their first person view, or rotate the camera in a full 360 degrees around whoever you’re watching.
Quick Mute Option
Users will now be able to quick mute players on the fly by pulling up the scoreboard in-game or via the lobby by simply going to their name and hitting the mute assigned button. As quickly as calling in and designating an airstike. So no longer getting killed while trying to make your way through the Xbox blades for the mute option so you can shut up the guy who always seems to find it funny to sing into his mic or cover up for his lack of skill by telling you how to play Domination his way.
In addition to these feature additions there will also be:
Improved Network Performance For Larger Games
* 18 player games now require more bandwidth to host, resulting in smoother performance for players.
Optimized Server Selection for First Match
* Server selection is now optimized to select best bandwidth servers associated by LSP.
Fixed “Playlist Older Than Host” Error
* Player will no longer get error when entering games.
Additional Start Spawn Locations in All Maps
* Added a minimum of 9 extra start spawns on each side of all maps.

Thanks for the update.
I have been seeing a lot of people cheating in Headquarters. It seems like friends try to get on opposite teams, then they just meet each other in one location throughout the entire match and go for headshots only…In the meantime we (teammates) have to sit through this shit. Any possibility of a fix?

Just out of interest, how often does the Microsoft cert take ? I don`t want an exact or anything, just a rough “couple of days” or “two weeks at msot”.

I’ll ask it again . . . how long does certification usually take?
IamVertigo // February 13, 2008 at 2:53 pm
2-3 weeks I think
nick scurr // February 13, 2008 at 3:11 pm
A normal game takes two weeks for certification, though if you are ‘in’ with sony/MS etc you can get it through in two weeks.
When submitting a patch the whole game needs to be tested with the patch, so they have to test the whole game again just like when it was being released first time around.

Does this patch include a fix for Corrupt create-a-class issues? What about the Game Lobby Closed/Player kicked issue?

Awesome! I thought that the multiplayer was already the greatest thing in the world, but this is just going to make it even greater!
It would definately piss me off when the host leaves in the middle of the game…and perhaps this might also solve the problem of random lag in some games.
Plus, I’m always playing as a sniper. But I never use scopes because, really, it’s easier NOT to use them. Maybe now it’ll actually work properly for a change!
Wow…this is gonna be one heck of an update. Can’t wait!
(I use the 360 btw)

I have been mulling over this patch on xbox.com yet my responses have gone unanswered. First, let me preface this next section with I thank IW for the patch and appreciate the fixes that are going into play.
Now, this host migration fix. How is this going to work? So when the host leaves the game, we all get bounced out until a new host is selected and then the game fires back up again? If I read it right this is how it works. Now, does this mean that potentially we could have 5 or 6 disruptions per game as many people come to games and leave games? I mean if I am understanding this new system correctly, it will get frustrating pretty quickly for people to be playing, then bounced, back to playing then bounced, back to playing then bounced etc…
I guess it is better than the system in place now but why could there not be a more seemless host selection where the game is not disrupted at all.
Believe me, as far as I am concerned CoD is the best franchise on the market and I am really disappointed that IW doesn’t make all the CoD’s, so I hate this to sound “whiney” but this is an issue.

Right on love the idea of the mute button. although i have to see what youve done with the snipers, im not a huge fan of sniping and i really appreciated the talent need to snipe in this game. only thing id really love to see happen is the duration the helicopter strike continues be shortened drastically. too many times have we been playing and a guy win with the next highest score being 3 or 4 kills. at least make it shorter less effective or easier to shoot down. great game guys im really pumped.
El Hadji // February 22, 2008 at 12:04 pm
Regarding the helicopter: I don’t have so much trouble with its airtime as I have with its accuracy. You can hide in a closet in a back room - the chopper still gets you…
Me on the other hand, always seems to call in “Stewie Wonder Airlines” - both when calling in a choppers and airstrikes. So maybe the acurracy is good as it its…
QUESTION: Does it really make a difference calling in a UAV just before calling for air support? Many players claim that it does these days. Never heard of it a couple of weeks ago…
kizzle // February 23, 2008 at 5:36 am
Sooooo what time do you go on the meeb chat thing so i cant ask you how long the certification will take because the sniping is pissing me off and i want it fixed soon so could you like find out how long it will take for us all 402?
onnahinli // February 23, 2008 at 9:13 am
Too true el hadji! something someone mentioned today was possibly adding a better S2A missle perk like a stinger or something to combat that pesky helicopter. i have to agree also about using the uav before airstrike i seem to always get the kill when i have it going then normally.
El Hadji // February 25, 2008 at 11:59 am
Maybe some fixed AAA guns here and there on the maps as an addition to the fixed MG’s? Or maybe a new perk: Radio Jammer to prevent the actual radio call for air support?
onnahinli // February 27, 2008 at 4:19 am
YEAH! i like the fixed aa idea! that would definitely level the playing field!

sniping is defintely easier and at first i felt it was way to easy to get a kill, but that was only relevant on open maps and the fact that you cant just stay in one position the whole time evens it well. ive always loved how perfect the sniper camo is though, ive literally have ran and stopped as if ive hit an object or wall and realized there was a sniper in front of me!
