Despite what the internet might tell you (including some “official” sources), the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare variety map pack has NOT been delayed until the 10th. As of right now we’re pushing certification for an on-time release for April 3rd or 4th. As of right now though, I’m being told that it’s a good chance it will be released worldwide (except for Japan) tomorrow night / early-Friday morning.
With that said, we also have a new video up on Gametrailers that show off the new maps in action, so check it out above.
For those of you asking when you should take off work, I’d take off Friday, as it looks like they should be available late Thursday night / early Friday morning, which means Friday you should be able to play all day. Also, those of you who have tokens already (either from Game of the Year edition or won them at the Gamestop event we held) you’ll be able to use them as soon as the Map packs are available on Xbox Live.
Update for those of you who bought the Game of the Year Editions:
I see a lot of questions for those of you who have the Game of the Year Editions and visited http://gameoftheyear.callofduty.com/ where all the April 10th delay date rumors spawned from. However, I wanted to let you know that I am currently working to get that changed so that it reflects the correct release date of the maps (April 4th) as well as allows users who buy the GOTY edition to redeem their code for a token as soon as the maps are available (on April 4th) instead of April 10th. I hope that clears up any confusion and I will keep you updated if anything changes, but I wanted to let you know I’m working to make sure you’re taken care of.

Funny. Xbox fans start to get upset, and he updates within a day of the stories to confirm that the rumors weren’t true. PS3 fans have been upset for weeks since the DLC was announced, and IW still has to admit if they sold out or not for exclusivity.
There continues to be no mention of patch issues.

question to the PS3 guys… I have had an xbox for a while now and just recently got a PS3 for the Blu-Ray player. how come it takes 4 hoursto download a 500mb demo on PSN??? if I remember right, on the xbox it might take like 30 minutes. As you know ps3 dualshock 3 controllers will be coming this week so im just wondering if theres any plans of adding a rumble patch.
Also have you looked into the headset problems with the ps3 version. When playing online with friends or solo, the voice chat goes out and you can not hear anyone talking. Sometimes I can’t hear a person on my squad but they can hear me, or vise versa

Well that only took a full 24 hours to get someone at a multi-million dollar company to make an official statement. I’m not taking it out on you 402 but someone in the marketing department for IW / EA is being paid too much for doing too little.
Wouldn’t have happened like this at Bungie. The delay rumours would have been quashed within hours by a simple official statement on the community messageboards.

The lack of even a cursory acknowledgment of PS3 owners’ continuing problems and concerns with this game is really quite astonishing.
Here are a few questions many people would like answers to (as the IW forum has been taken down!):
1) What happened to Host Migration?
2) ) What about these people who can never enter a game because of DGS?
3) Why the delay to PS3 DLC, and when will it be released?

Hey fourzertwo, you seem to be flippantly criticising ‘internet rumours’ for this situation.
The real problem was that none of the official InfinityWard or EA websites gave an exact date for the release, just a vague ‘early april’. The only website that had an accurate date was the OFFICIAL GOTY website. And it was WRONG. You should be looking closer to home for someone to blame. The community look to official sources for accurate information and you guys dropped the ball really badly here.
Seriously, how long does it take for you guys to get that GOTY website taken down, fixed and put back up. Wrong information is worse than no information. You guys short of a web designer or something?

Wow, I had no idea that people really did all this ‘my console is better than yours’ stuff - I thought most owners of new generation consoles were over 5 years old and thus past all this playground bitching!
Personally I think any delay would hit sales - I know that I won’t be playing much COD4 after 29th April so the closer it gets to that date, the less likely I am to buy the map pack as I simply won’t get value for money….

The PS3 delay is Sony’s fault. No new PSN content, for *anything*, for the next couple of weeks until the new store goes live…

Some dude wrote in a earlier comment that 500MB used to take 30 mins to DL on Live but then bought a PS3, guess its taking him alot longer to DL shit…That right there tells me volumes about how good or not good PSN really is. I really dont care about watching Blu-Ray on my console, thats what a home theater is for, so if you want to wear out your PS3 that much quicker , so be it. I can understand your gripe though about the release date for the maps for your console, I guess if you actually were made to pay for your network , you guys might have been getting the maps at the same time, or maybe we are getting exclusitivity for a few days. Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to trying to guess whats going on inside the corperate minds over at I.W….I know if I owned a PS3 i would be really pissed…Just think about all those games that are exclusive over in japan for months, do you guys write to Sony to gripe at them. That was the main reason I went with Xbox this time, we get all the new games first. 402 wrote that everyone is going to get the maps except for Japan, that makes me feel awsome, effen little rice eaters. thats my 2 cents worth!! I downloaded Warhawk last night in less than 15 minutes. I believe it was around 498 MB.
I have a 5Mbps cable modem. If my calculations are right, that is just about as fast as you could download this file due to the 5Mbps cap. So I would say the PSN was working just fine last night.

I am a military member in Okinawa, Japan and I am part of a group of an even larger population that are also military members…. So I saw that the pack release is worldwide tonight except for japan…. Why is that???

I am a web developer managing a server hosting four domains. That error is very generic and can be achieved by simply stopping the service to that website.
Maybe it was a legitimate error. Just seems like convenient timing to me. Hope I am wrong.

It certainly is incredible timing for the IW forum to be taken offline right when the number of users posting about their troubles with the game on PS3, and unhappiness about the lack of even a one sentence acknowledgement, was becoming an avalanche.
Here’s hoping that our concerns en masse have now got through to the people who can do something about them, and that when the forum returns there will be a promise to address everything in whatever time frame it takes. If this is just a PR damage-limitation exercise because the maps are launching then I’m sure many will be bitterly disappointed.

It’s not Sony’s fault.
IW sold XBOX a 21 day exclusive right to the maps. If you will notice the PS3 “Game Of The Year” edition doesn’t come out until late April either, which has nothing to do with Sony’s upgrade of PSN.
