Just a heads up that it looks like Marketplace is back on it’s feet and running as normal. You should have no problem buying or redeeming the new Variety Map Pack. If you tried yesterday when it was down and received an Invalid Code error, be sure to retry today with the same code. If you received the Error Message that your code was already used while it was down yesterday, just attempt to re-download it via the “Download Maps” option in-game or on the marketplace.
Meanwhile, we’ve been preparing for the launch of the new maps on the PS3 as well via PSN. So we should have details on that in the near future (hopefully next week). I’m in the process of setting up some Play with the Devs games as well as looking into other similar things we can just like the launch of the map packs on Xbox 360. Please don’t feel ignored if every platform isn’t mentioned in each post, a lot goes into every release (especially something as big as a map pack release), so typically when I post I’m focused at the subject at hand specifically.
Luckily though it’s getting to that time for the PS3 to be the focus for a while with the launch of the Game of the Year Edition on PS3, the Variety Map Pack hitting PSN, and setting up some launch weekend events for you guys when the maps hit.
As I said we are getting close to having official details on exact release dates and info on the GOTY Edition for PS3 hitting stores worldwide, as well as when you can expect the Map Pack to be up on PSN for download. That’s my main focus for next week.
On the PC side of things the Patch is in queue to finish internal QA for release. The Community Mapping Content has come to an end and we’ll be putting out an open call for all the maps you guys have created to be submitted as well as releasing details on the prizing and how the winning maps may be showing up. We have some awesome prizing I’m anxious to finalize and announce to you guys. I’ve been keeping tabs on the Beta / Released maps in the Mapping forums on Infinityward.com and there are some great ones.
In addition to that details are being finalized as to getting the map pack to the PC users as well. I can’t speak specifics just yet as everything is being cemented now, but it sounds like good news.
Let me know if you guys have any questions or concerns in the meantime, but it sounds like next week is going to be the most informative when it comes to what’s shaping up on the PS3 and PC side of things.

So in the patch, you guys at IW extended the number of slots in the playlist to add gametypes. I have yet to hear ONE SINGLE word on new gametypes. Honestly, I think gametypes is more important than maps, MAINLY because you left out the MOST classic game of all…..CTF!!!

Me again, you say your main focus is the ps3, it should be reparing the damaged trust most ps3 players including me had in you and your company. Before the screw job of the feature patch i was your most loyal forum support, i defended you to the hills and back again, what did i get in return a ban of a week, no response to any of my threads and no reason for the dlc delay. The community needs something more than “I be focusing on that now” only because there is nothing more you can give the 360.
We should get the maps for free, have at least 2 double xp weekends, a public appolgy for the delay and a reason why half the feature patch is missing, then you will get my trust again.
P.S. an offcial word on what the hell causes dgs would be nice, i have to reset my router each time i log on cod4, its greatly annoying

Absolutely amazing! Are you kidding me? I have no intention whatsoever to buy these maps. I am so done dealing with this friggin’ company. It sucks too because I love this game, but it’s already been about 2 weeks since I’ve played it. Ever since I found out the maps would be released 21 days early for the xbox. When I checked the forums to find out why all I found were hundreds of other PS3 users like myself asking the same questions and being ignored. Why don’t we have host migration? Why is our content always released after xbox? Did MS pay you off? You couldn’t tell us when the feature patch was coming out, how is it you know the map pack will be released exactly 21 days later? Sounds fishy to me, but since the PS3 will be getting so much attention in the near future we should get the answers to these and more questions. Right? Don’t worry, I won’t be holding my breath. Even though I love the game I refuse to give your company one more red cent. I can live without the maps. I have my principles. Screw you and you company for treating PS3 users this way. Peace out!

As you know ps3 dualshock 3 controllers will be coming this week so im just wondering if theres any plans of adding a rumble patch.
Also have you looked into the headset problems with the ps3 version. When playing online with friends or solo, the voice chat goes out and you can not hear anyone talking. Sometimes I can’t hear a person on my squad but they can hear me, or vise versa

The reason why the PS3 is going to take 3 weeks longer to get the Maps is because the PlayStation Store is down. If you read any new imformation you will realize this. Notice how for the past few days we haven’t had any new content on the PS Store? Thats becayse its being “Revamped” to help customers find things. Don’t be mad at IW, because it was not their choice to re-do the PS Store. The maps will be released in approx. 3 weeks because that is when Sony is scheduling there “Revamping” to be completed. Please get fact’s right before blasting people who have no control over the situation.

The 3 week delay has nothing to do with the PS Store being redone & everything to with IW accepting a Microsoft payoff. Everyone knows this. We just want IW to admit it publicly, which they won’t do. Instead they say nothing and try to make it seem as if it’s some sort of issue with Sony. By most informative, he means, since the ps3 has gotten no information to this point, this bit of information makes it by default the most informative, so no surprise that he still doesn’t respond to the remaining issues ps3 users have SINCE THE LAST PATCH SEVERAL WEEKS AGO. Where is the Host Migration that was promised in patch 1.12, please explain why you had a two week delay for the release of the patch to SCEA/SCEE for cert to have half the patch missing. There are still issues with lag and the snipers have not been fixed, Ground War is still called Lag War and I still get Download Game Settings if I go on the internet on my pc before loading up COD4 on my ps3.
@ Brian, yes saying anything against IW on their own forum is now bannable, you cannot speak your mind there anymore, I have been speaking to a few banned members banned for saying offensive lagnage to delevopers, My ban of a week was for no reason other than to many to mention, I have asked the mods why and he refuses to let me know, so I am considering leaving the forum for good. I bet my topic information about patch 1.12 is still there with no response from any of IW or 402 on the ps3 forum.

@ the people blaming the ps store being taken down, do you really believe in your heart of hearts that is the reason the content was delayed. The dlc was announced about 1 and half before the store was taken down, the ms side went into cert three weeks ago but the ps3 side did not. The store was updated before it was taken down with GT5 prologue, UT3’s free map packs, Turoks map pack and a few other bits. There was enough time for IW to give sony the maps for general release then, but that would of meant the ps3 owners getting it a week before the 360 owners. Now the store comes back up in two weeks time on the April 17th, which is inspected to contain Operation: Broken Mirror and some rumours saying Home aswell. I doubt we will see the COD Varitey Map Pack

I still love this game WHEN it works, but won’t be buying the maps or anything else that IW produce on principle due to:
The problems with the last patch and the total lack of support or explanation from 402 or IW for PS3.
The failure to address the hacking - that the coding has clearly made so easy - to the point where some hackers who have ecxploited the game have been laughed away by IW when they tried to inform them!
Many of us PS3 owners feel like we are just an annoyance to IW 402, so fair enough I will go and ‘annoy’ other games developers with my money in future.

if there was something to complain about i would have to agree with the martyrdom, juggernaut, etc. the m16 could be tweaked, but it’s one of the best guns i can use to hunt down snipers. it may be a little too powerful, but if i can take down a sniper with it then the sniper isn’t doing their job.
all in all it’s one of the best games ever made. it feels realistic and looks gorgeous. hats off to infinity ward, and fourzerotwo i don’t know who you are, but you’re my new hero.
also, as for the new map pack, i would have paid 20 bucks just for the map Creek.
oh, and, is there any chance at all that you could somehow make a patch that would allow all the maps to be played in splitscreen mode? i understand that the bigger maps like Overgrown wouldn’t handle 4 people well, but the only friend i know who owns a ps3 isn’t able to play on those maps with us. we only have those 8 maps or so when we go over to his house.
anyway, if that’s not even possible or feasible in any way then just ignore my comment.

also - does anyone else in the COD4 universe play with just KNIVES? i’m sure some of you do, but it just seems like me and my buddies are alone in that respect. i wish there was a “knives only” setting. we just agree beforehand that we can only use knives. turning it on old school mode enabling you to jump higher also allows all of us crazy knife maniacs to reach new parts of the maps unthinkable before.
another thing we do is 3 on 1 team deathmatch. we take turns being the outnumbered man who can only use a m9 silenced pistol while the 3-man team hunts him down with KNIVES only. the score by the end of the match is surprisingly close.
it usually resorts with the 1 man finding a higher ground spot like on an awning or something similar and camping while the ravenous beasts try to get to him by any means possible.
after writing this i sound like some gamer with OCD, but i just had to share my cod4 experiences. It’s KNIVES!

It’s very stupid if you don’t want to pay $10.
Check the movies and see how great the maps are, how professional made they are. Normal custom maps on the PC are between 40 - 60 mb, but the maps of the V Map Pack are between 90 and 120 MB. (map pack is 440 mb)

The reason for the delay is that IW want to focus as strong as possible on each release, which is not possible when they release it for the Xbox 360 and PS3 at the same time.

Why are you people so happy about paying around 10 dollars, depending on where you are from, for 3 maps that they deleted from the full game just before release and a bonus map to make a nice round 4 maps so they can rip the money from you months later.
If they didn’t have time to complete the maps for the release so be it but why charge money for something that we allready paid for with buying the original game.

The only people that will lose out here is PS3 owners. If alot of people refuse to purchase the new map content and the way IW have treated its PS3 fanbase then it means COD4 players around the world will have very few people to play against on this platform. If only several thousand people purchase the map pack then you’ll have very few people to play these maps with after you factor in time difference of players and the whole new level of lag this game introduced to the 21st century.
With such few numbers playing the maps anyone who has purchased them will be the people who lose out as they’ll no longer have the same number of people to play with. Especially when they start experiences the familiar “Connection Interrupted” error messages and 10x the number of Host Ended Game error messages. And seeing as fourzerotwo refuses to answer why Host Migration wasn’t part of the PS3 patch then we continue to have to put up with the shoddy network layer their developers managed to copy/paste together.

However, this is still a good game, I enjoy playing the hell out of it and I appreciate IW’s efforts to get this game to the market. seems like I remembered the maps wrong that were rumored but if you google possible maps cod 4 with either broadcast or hill… you’ll see why. Broadcast was in the mix at that time allready and the other ones I must of mixed them up during the months to follow. The pic they showed of the hill map had a lot of green in it so that stuck in my mind as creek.

But I still stand on what I first said just change 3 to 1 and 1 remake so your basicly paying for 2 new maps.

oh and we were supposed to have host migration in the last patch…but we just didn’t get it. The host quits the game you get dropped out completly and have to go searching for a new game. Thats why you see so many angry responses from so many ps3 people as there has been no explanation as to why this has happened or even the slightest acknowledgement of the fact that its not working and they are looking into the matter.
I hope that for the people that have bought the maps (xbox) and the ones that will buy them for the ps3 that they will enjoy them and have lots of fun but on principle I’m joining in with thebigb and a few others in not buying it. Believe it or not I’m still enjoying the maps we got now when the host doesn’t quit or connection interrupted error doesn’t show up and I have to search for a new game.
And once they do get released I’ll be moving on to gta and my wife loves that game aswell so there will be even less time to play

I didn’t know if before, but it seems many people are disappointed case there’s no Host Migration.
But I am not a console freak, I play CoD4 on the PC. We’ve no problems and I want to play the new maps as soon as possible.

Also is the reason for 3 weeks map pack delay something to do with the new ps store? Sony said they cudnt add any content for the next 2 weeks so that could be a good reason or,
you just love 360 and hate ps3.

As a PC gamer, I feel shafted by not having Infinity Ward give us the map pack for free right away, without a second thought. It’s been done before, and from the HUGE success of the game, money shouldn’t be an issue. But that’s just me… let’s look at it like business. If Infinity Ward decides to sell us the maps, only one person would need to buy it. This person can take the map files and put them in an FTP for his/her server. By doing that, anyone connects to the server will automatically download the maps. These players can put the files up on their servers, and eventually most players will have received the maps without having to buy it.
Forcing us to buy it poses another problem for you: distribution. Think of the cost of making DVD-ROMs. I’m not a professional in the publishing process, much less in terms of cost, but I would expect that this would cost at least a million dollars to publish enough for the PC gaming community. Using the example from above, only one person needs to buy it. What will it cost? Not more than $10. If one person buys it, and it costs two million to publish and distribute, you are out $1,999,990.00. Actually, you yourself wouldn’t be out by that much. Retail stores buy it from you, and then sell it for profit. So you have your money, but the retail stores have lost a significant amount of money. This won’t do anything but hurt your reputation. Also, wouldn’t it be much more economical to add the maps in via a patch as opposed to going through the process of buying discs, putting the game on the discs (includes operating cost of machinery) then paying even more money to ship the discs out to the retailers.
And while this is all going on, you are losing support from your second largest community, those of the PC gaming community. I can go on and on about how we made you who you are, where your loyalty lies, etc. but that isn’t a valid argument. Let’s just say, hypothetically speaking, that no PC gamer ever bought any game made by Infinity ward ever again. You would loose, I imagine, around 30% of your sales the next time around. As I recall, you have sold over 7,000,000 copies of CoD4. If we were to take away 30% of that, you would have lost over 2,100,000 copies of the game. The price of the PC version is $49.99. This adds up to say that you have just lost $104,979,000 USD under these circumstances.
Of course, all of these numbers are wrong, but I hope you can see my point. All PC gamers won’t leave Infinity Ward if they do not get the map pack for free, and I have no way of knowing what percentage of sales (per copy, not price) is held by the PC. I am just trying to speak business here.

I disagree with the comment above about maps being free for PC users. What sets you apart from everyone else? In my eyes, if I paid $10.00 for the map, just because I have an xbox, that doesn’t make you any better of a person to get them free, just because you prefer the game on the PC. Im sure PC maps will be free, but I personally don’t agree with it. If your going to charge gas for a car, and a van, don’t expect to get gas free just because you drive a motorcycle.

I am not giving IW a cent of my money. I absolutely love this game, but it is so broken, it is nearly unplayable for me most of the time.
Downloading game settings? No host migration, TERRIBLE spawns on the smaller maps, delayed features compared to the 360, and the list goes on.
The only reason IW is catering to the 360 crowd is because of the large user base. That is where the money is. Well guess what? The PS3 has been outselling the 360 every week in 2008, so the tide is turning. With MGS4 and other heavy hitters this fall, that user base will change.
I for one wont forget where my 60 dollars went when I purchased this game on launch day. Disappointment.

Hey Robert…is the rumble feature on the ps3 version of COD4 ever going to be offered as a patch now that the Dualshock 3 has been officially released in the U.S.? If not, why? Is it a technical or legal issue?
It would be awesome to have the same vibration feature already available on the 360 version, to be present in the ps3 version as well.
