The Variety Map Pack DLC and patch required to add the maps to the game have went to Certification at Sony last night. We’re shooting for a worldwide simultaneous release, so all users can expect to have it at the same general time frame when it finishes certification. We’re working to see if we can secure a firm release date to pass along to you guys now, and I’ll post that as soon as I have it.
In addition the map pack should be hitting the PSN store around the same time the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Game of the Year Edition for PS3 hits store shelves. I will have exact details on the GOTY edition, release dates, and more hopefully this week as they’re being finalized.

Wait, so the DLC is coming *earlier* than the often-mentioned April 24th date?
That would be golden.
Hey, btw, please let us know if rumble’s going to be added as a patch for the ps3 version of COD4.

I’ll even throw in a copy of “Dawn of the Dead” on blu-ray for you if you answer our questions! (whenever that comes out).
xLegioNx // April 7, 2008 at 10:05 pm
If you are, then how much will these maps cost exactly?
Any reason you can give us for the 21 day delay? We’ve all pretty much guessed as to why but can you confirm?
Why is it that the things we were promised in the patch aren’t there?
Why is it that the things that you know need to be fixed, are never fixed, and not even spoken about?
All but a few questions the ps3 community are wondering. Im asking you with no negative intentions, these are the things we have been wondering for a while? Just help us to understand..

Here are some questions I have for you 402: -
1. For us non-dlc players what will we get, we will be able to play the new game modes
2. How will the servers be made to play with non-dlc and dlc players?
3. What additonal fixes are being added, is there a patch coming to
4. How much will the maps cost on the EU/UK store, currently no price information has been handed out to us gamers based there, not that I care
5. Can we have an offical response on what is causing dgs (Downloading Game Settings)
6. Can we have a reson why host migration is missing
please try to answer my questions 402

fourzerotwo // April 7, 2008 at 11:44 pm
@ thebig59:
1. For us non-dlc players what will we get, we will be able to play the new game modes.
DLC maps are separate from any new game modes that may be added in the future. So even those without DLC can play any new game modes that might be added. You just won’t be able to play on the new maps of course.
2. How will the servers be made to play with non-dlc and dlc players?
Non-DLC players will only matchmake with other non-dlc players and lobbies. If you get in a non-dlc lobby and it turns into a DLC-lobby you will just be given a message telling you it requires the map pack and put you back in your own lobby. However, that is rare as you will only matchmake with other non-dlc players for the most part.
3. What additonal fixes are being added, is there a patch coming to?
There will be a tweak to clan tags to re-allow special characters but still eliminate the clan tag glitch.
4. How much will the maps cost on the EU/UK store, currently no price information has been handed out to us gamers based there.
The price is $10 US with standard conversion rates applying for all other currencies.
5. Can we have an offical response on what is causing dgs (Downloading Game Settings).
Downloading Game Settings simply means your connection is not communicating with the LSP server. There could be several network based sources causing this but the most common would be trouble connecting to the demonware server when creating the session.
6. Can we have a reason why host migration is missing?
Host Migration was originally intended to be added to the PS3 as well, however did not make it into the patch due to technical limitations on the PS3 network backend we use with Demonware for matchmaking. It was removed from all patch notes / posts early on but regretfully most sites reposted 360 patch notes as Ps3 patch notes causing even more confusion.

@ Those Asking About Rumble: As I’ve said, there are no plans to add rumble to CoD4 PS3, the Rumble tech / support for the PS3 came way to late in Call of Duty 4 to be implemented, we’re almost half a year out since launch and it would require a major code overhaul to add that sort of feature in now.

So if the new maps are released with GOTY that will be shipped on april 23rd, so 402 why is it that the PS3 gamers have to wait so much longer. Maybe you could shed some light on this and put to rest the rumors of Microsoft buying exclusive rights to the maps.

its good to finally get some ps3 news but i have a quick question.
how will the map rotation work for partys, for example if i have the DLC and invite 5 friend to my party and 1 of them doesnt have the DLC will the party be put into a non DLC mode and only look for matches using the original maps? or will my party be searching for any map old or new and then kick out the guy that didnt buy the DLC if we end up on one of the new maps, sort of like a majority rules kinda system?
if it is the latter of the two what if i dont have the new maps but the 5 people i invite to my party do, will the party be searcing for original map games beacuase the host of the party doesnt have the maps, or the new and old map games because the majority of the party do have the DLC?
the way i put it is very confusing i know but please answer because this could affect the way clans play together in future.

I have a comment regarding your post and point number 2:
My reaction to this information. That’s stupid. That means that in random games, you are then limited to players who have chosen to purchase the dlc. What happens if only say 10-20% of the ps3 community purchases the map pack. That just reduced our particular community by up to 90% for those who buy it. If that’s the case, that’s a seriously dumb idea to make sure people with dlc and non-dlc are separated. Please make sure the technical/devs actually can figure out a way to make sure they can keep the ENTIRE community together.
I don’t want to login and only have some of the community available to play with me. I want everyone to be a part of the process.

For a “Game of the Year” title, it’s pretty disappointing that rumble won’t be added to the PS3. Especially since the 360 already has rumble. The code is already there for the 360. How much work does it truly involve to write the code for the PS3? Seems like you would at least be able to add it slowly in several patches.

Didn’t mean to steal your post, but just thought I would lay it out a little better.
Also, I really feel that IW dropped the ball regarding the Host Migration (”HM”
and what I mean by that is that they ended up finding out that HM wouldn’t work and simply removed it from the list of features of the patch. You can not just go back and remove something from your intended list without letting people know that you are doing that and/or giving people a reason. A it would have taken is communication such as a post here or at IW that they couldn’t get the HM to work and it won’t be included in the next patch. Also let us know….. “at this time we don’t feel HM will be possible in the future” or “we are hoping that in a future patch we will be able to include HM”
Just remember IW…’An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure’

PS3 shows NAT type 2.
Speedtest.net shows about 10MB /1MB within the U.S. , @100 ms ping.
To the UK, it’s around 5MB/1MB, with a slightly higher ping at the moment.
The pings are a little high. I know the COD PC server times are alot less. But with speedtest, you’re never sure exactly what a good ping could be between their servers.

What a load of bullshit!.. RESISTANCE was a PS3 release title, it was out on November 14, 2006 and yet they were able to implement “Rumble” via a patch on November 2007. About the same time CoD4 came out.
Now you mean to tell us that you are not capable of doing the same? Even after you already have the “Rumble” coding for the Box version you have no way of bringing it over to the PS3 version? Shit! that right just lets us know how capable the guys at IW are…
Oh and by the way, Resistance which was released on 2006 was able to have in-game XMB friends list located within the online menu. Did that came out too late for you guys to also implement?
There seems to be a trend here. Whenever there is something that IW can’t pull off cause of their incompetence they act as if it were impossible to accomplish by any means.
Host Migration… IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE PS3!
Rumble… IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE PS3!
Come on! If you can’t do this shit right just give up on the PS3 and go suck on that Microsoft cock. They already lost Bungie and since IW seems to be so fixated in taking over the place that “Halo” used to occupy maybe they will acquire you guys and you can live happily ever after.

First of all if this gets deleted it will serve as a negative message to the community.
This relates directly to the PS3 and more specifically COD4 on the PS3, which if I am not mistaken is the forum title.
IW and companies like IW pay other companies big bucks for marketing surveys all the time. Standard practice for any company trying to gain market share. Matter of fact, that is one reason why gaming companies even bother hosting a forum. They put up with the headaches and whining they have to sift thru before they locate a posting that has something valuable to say. Why? Because a site like this tells IW and the like, exactly what the consumers are saying about their game. And our sentiments are multiplied. Its the whole theory that if 1 guy/gal is upset or happy enough to actually take the time to write something to the company, or about the game or talk to other gamers who own the product… then there must be 5 or 10 people just like them who fit their demographic that feel the same way but dont want to go thru the extra effort. Or whatever the current model is. But you get my point right?
So IW has a great measurement of what their products are doing on the market without paying a dime (sure they probably pay a small amount for this forum or their domain or whatever. Thats not the point. Point is compared to the thousands it can sometimes cost for a company to do a market study , this is nothing. So while we are making judgements on IW based on their lack of response to our threads, they do the same to us based on these threads. I guess what I am saying in a way is also that no matter how absent they seem to be, I have a feeling someone from IW is watching the boards. They have to be. Because if not, I dont see IW staying in business too much longer.
Next point. Because of all of this, I have made the firm decision that after I purchase the map pack (mostly because of my son) I will never buy anything from IW again. And trust me, I will have a real sour taste in my mouth for having to give IW ANY of my hard earned money when they absolutely refuse to acknowledge their customers the way they have. And again, I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way.
And although it will not fix anything 100% it would be a start, so I will ask my questions once again.
- Why is 402 allowed or does he feel it is appropriate to post news only on his personal site, when it is his job to disseminate information on THIS site? Is he in way over his head with his position? The Peter Principle?
- Will the GOTY edition include in any way, shape, or form, a way for purchasers of that specific product to get the maps at a discount or for free?
- If so to the above question, why? And what if anything will be said or done for all the people (very many) who have purchased this game in the last 6 months or so who will not get the same or a similar deal?
- Why has none of this information been made available to the PS3 community, again, aside from having to scour the net and hoping to see a third party source it or to only find vague information on 402 personal blog?
- Why has no one from IW who actually has something to do with the game made ANY effort to respond to ANYTHING related to the cheats, hacks, feature patches, feature patch features, lag, host migration, or any of the above directly to the PS3 community? (yes I know a couple of these have been touched on by 402 on HIS PERSONAL blog, but I want an answer from somone who knows the cd tray is not a cup holder).
- Why has the mod team not been given any assistance? They are clearly overwhelmed. That is evident by some of the deletions/changes. I believe some of it is a result of the mods being overwhelmed and making simple errors in judgement because they are trying to get certain things accomplished.
I am disgusted almost to feel this is my only option because I truley did meet some cool, intelligent people in this forum and in game. But like another member put it, I will be relegated to only posting short pertinent comments that have nothing to do with any of the topics previously discussed. I simply do not have the time, the energy, or the desire if IW does not either. I hope they enjoyed the sales from COD4 because unless something changes, COD5 will not make GOTY or anything else for that matter due to the trend in their neglect of the community.
This post should be as valuable as gold to IW because here they have an unhappy customer who they have lost to future purchases to their competition. In a business sense, I would rather have a customer who I know does not like me because I know what I can do to get them back vs. a non-customer who I have no idea how to reach.

I agree with you %100, this company needs to do some serious damage control. Damage control is very hard to accomplish when you completely ignore the entire ps3 community. I will also not be purchasing any IW titles in the near future.

since we are waiting for these NEW MAPS, why dont you guys release more maps?? come on, i think ps3 should be better than any gaming system.(since its the newest)
Justin // April 10, 2008 at 1:47 am
Geez you guys whine like babies being weened off a teet.
The PSN has been down due to renovations. If you hadn’t noticed NOTHING has been added for some time now. Once it goes back up you’ll get your update.
Justin // April 10, 2008 at 1:49 am
@luigooey
Technically the PC is the newest and, by your logic, the greatest.
The PS3 is not special. It’s just another electronic device that plays video games like the Wii and 360. Get off you high horse.

Please don’t feel ignored if every platform isn’t mentioned in each post, a lot goes into every release (especially something as big as a map pack release), so typically when I post I’m focused at the subject at hand specifically.
Luckily though it’s getting to that time for the PS3 to be the focus for a while with the launch of the Game of the Year Edition on PS3, the Variety Map Pack hitting PSN, and setting up some launch weekend events for you guys when the maps hit.
As I said we are getting close to having official details on exact release dates and info on the GOTY Edition for PS3 hitting stores worldwide, as well as when you can expect the Map Pack to be up on PSN for download. That’s my main focus for next week.

@ Those Asking About Rumble: As I’ve said, there are no plans to add rumble to CoD4 PS3, the Rumble tech / support for the PS3 came way to late in Call of Duty 4 to be implemented, we’re almost half a year out since launch and it would require a major code overhaul to add that sort of feature in now.
ssjtiamat // April 10, 2008 at 3:41 am
look, fact is that 402 is just a pr dud e at iw and only speaks about what he can/is allowed to. His job title is not a technical one, so he just disseminates info. The sad thing is that he chooses to post info/news here (his personal blog) and has choosen to ignore the comments/questions on the company’s official site.
Someone needs to do the job they were paid to do. Seriously.
ANDY--McNAB // April 10, 2008 at 9:12 am
A few points for the PS3 version of COD4 ……
1. Many people would like to see a more severe punishment for Team Killing in the hardcore games. Minus 50 xp per kill is a joke and this should be increased to minus 500xp per kill . Accidental team kills happen we all know this but when idiots use RPG’S at spawn to kill 4,5 and even the thier entire team it ruins the game for not only those killed but for the players on the opposite team who have less people to kill and so less points to gain. If a patch was brought out to kick a player if they kill 2 or more team mates and also incure a larger minus xp penalty this would cut down on the minority of idiots doing this. Maybe a vote to kick player button could be introduced the same as the skip map one where a majority vote can kick a player !?
2. Try and sort out the problems with the Bog map when playing ground war ( a miricle if you manage to play an entire game without server problems / Lag ect..).
3. Mute button for the Lobby …. need I say more !? ……….Does anybody really want to listen to kids swearing and making stupid sounds and then the inconsiderate players who insist on playing music loud enough to drown out everybody else talking !
Come on surely it cant be that hard to sort these problems out with a bit of code ?
ANDY--McNAB // April 10, 2008 at 9:31 am
One more point ….
Whats with ” it’s a DRAW ” ..Host ended game…. It’s a pain in the butt that a DRAW counts as a loss in your stats ! The amount of times that a host leaves a game or there is lag and it ends a draw is really annoying every single day and our stats drop because of this !
L6763 // April 10, 2008 at 12:01 pm
Thank you ssjtiamat.
Consistent TWO WAY communication (even if the news isn’t good) is a MUST. It proves that a company is at least listening.
The infrequent token “We’re reading all your comments and e-mails” that you get are just that–an easyway for IW to get the positive comments they need for more propaganda.
We thought we had something there when 402 actually replied to a customer. However, there are so many more unasnwered simple question remaining!
Tigerriot // April 10, 2008 at 1:33 pm
It’s funny watching Infinity Ward act like they don’t know when these maps will be out. lol
These maps were set up with a specific date in mind a while ago, and the 360 version was given 3 weeks “exclusivity” on these new maps. That means you’ll see these PS3 maps released on the 24 or 25th of April. This whole thing is a charade to make it look like they didn’t work out a deal with Microsoft.
Infinity Ward developers even tried to lie on NeoGaf about this, and posted that no deal was made. lol These idiots insult my intelligence on a regular basis.
Justin // April 10, 2008 at 2:50 pm
@ Tigerriot
And where is the proof that this “deal” exists?
Justin // April 10, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Plus try to load the PSN store. Doens’t work now does it? Now Google for when the new Warhawk expansion, PSN games, and other titles are expected to receive updates. WHEN THE PSN RENOVATIONS ARE FINISHED!
Seriously, you all need to quit your incessant whining.
paul // April 10, 2008 at 3:27 pm
15th april is the ps store done so lets hope the new pack is some where in those days
ALEX3293 // April 10, 2008 at 5:09 pm
you guys please make so when the host leaves it finds a new host and on hardcore when someone teamkills you can boot them out of the game
Tyler Hartman // April 10, 2008 at 8:40 pm
it doesn’t immediately find a new host cause maybe you want to switch games, go 2 single player, or start your own party. as for the booting of teammates who kill u, it would be nice, but it is even beter that they lose points for it
ANDY--McNAB // April 11, 2008 at 9:02 am
They should have a heavier points deduction thou as minus 50xp per kill isn’t enough ! It should be minus 500 or 1000 xp !!!!!
ssjtiamat // April 11, 2008 at 12:37 pm

xXrebelionXx // April 11, 2008 at 4:40 pm
Regarding Rumble: How the hell can it be too late? Resistance, a launch game (about a year and a half old) has rumble! Maybe you should stop licking Microsoft’s balls and add some features to the PS3 version. I won’t be buying any games from Infinity Ward unless we start seeing an improvement soon. I mean, how bloody hard can it be to add a feature that is already in the Xbox version? It doesn’t have to be perfect, just make my damn controller rumble when I get shot, add Host Migration and release DLC and Patches at the same time as you do for the 360.
Knation // April 11, 2008 at 7:27 pm
Yo 402! Where’s that release date on DLC for PS3 you talked about posting this week???
Tyler Hartman // April 11, 2008 at 11:12 pm
I’m with xXrebelionXx. People need to stop treating Microsoft like a god and get real. If I remember right, Sony’s PS2 was once the king of gaming systems. What happened? Halo. this game is the only reason Xbox became so popular. If PS3 was released at it’s originally planned date (sometime in 2005) Sony would still reign. As for the rummble feature, i have Ps2 games that rummble. And 1 more question: when did Call of Duty 5 announce its appearance?
The ChosenOne // April 12, 2008 at 10:28 am
Funny how 402 has over 150 xbox game but under 20 ps3 games. I know ps3 has only been out a while but this surely shows some favouritism towards xbox?
thebigb59 // April 12, 2008 at 6:21 pm
i have 30 ps3 games, lucky me and over a 100 ps2 games
Matt // April 12, 2008 at 7:55 pm
THIS IS WHY I BELIEVE THE 360 GOT EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS.
1. NEITHER A DEVELOPER OR 402 HAS DENIED THIS SO CALLED RUMOR
2. THE MAPS WERE RELEASED ON XBOX BEFORE THE PS STORE WENT DOWN (WHICH THE NEW STORE IS GONNA BE TIGHT)
3. AMAZINGLY, THE RELEASE OF GOTY IS SET FOR APRIL 24TH, THAT IS AROUND 3 WEEKS, I CAN’T IMAGINE THE GAME IS THAT MUCH DIFFERENT (I GUESS CHANGING THE COVER TOOK 3 WEEKS)
4. IT’S JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF 402 CONSTANTLY ON XBOX’S DICK
I THOUGHT HE WAS GONNA START PAYING MORE ATTENTION TO THE PS3 COMMUNITY
Never again // April 13, 2008 at 2:24 am
He did he mentioned that ps3 dlc is going to certification. That he is more info about the ps3 that 402 has mentioned in months.
Tyler Hartman // April 13, 2008 at 3:03 am
as mentioned before here, 402 is a guy who runs this blog that only says what his co-workers want to release to the public. however, it would be nice to have an exact date on the new maps release for PSN. they’ve been going through certification for 4 days now with no word on what’s happening.
I’d also like to know about the mysterious COD5 Andy-Mcnab mentioned and what the difference is between the GOTY edition of COD4 and the original one.
Eric // April 13, 2008 at 5:15 am
people, COD5 isn’t even being developed by Infinity ward so discussing it here is pointless as hell.

“F” IW …. i WILL be taking my money elsewhere they have spoken and if they dont want to offer customer service then i say screw them … c’mon people wake up there are so many other games out there that deserve our money and they actually LISTEN to their customers …so IW enjoy the money Xbox payed you cause you aing getting a “F”ing dime out of me … i hope your whole series goes down the tubes ….with MGS,Haze,Socom,GTA4 and others out this year i have way many other options to have fun …. cause you know what playing a game that is 90% of the time looking at either host ended game or lobby closed and the other 9% is me trying my best to play through the “F”ing lag and then 1% me actually having a normal game … so see ya IW cause i already traded in my copy of COD4 for my preorder of GTA4 …
daprofessor217 // April 14, 2008 at 7:18 pm
Just be patient, 402 said himself he was gonna start paying more attention to us. What a joke, if we want attention, we better start posting in the x-box section.
daprofessor217 // April 14, 2008 at 7:20 pm
The only way anything will get done around here is if thebig or ssjtiamat take over 402’s customer support job.
Tyler Hartman // April 14, 2008 at 8:57 pm
personally, i think COD4 is one of the best games for PS3. i haven’t really played many others ( i’ve played Lair, Sonic, Ghost Recon 2, and Warhawk) but this is posibly the best game i have (i also have wii, gamecube, nintendo DS, PS2). i wouldln’t give it away and there aren’t too many lag problems unless you have a bad connection.
as i wrote earlier in this blog, the only real reason XBox became popular is because of games like Halo and Gears of War which were exclusive to the console. before that, everybody loved Sony’s PS2. WE NEED TO FIGHT AND REGAIN THE RESPECT AND ATTENTION THAT RIGHTFULLY BELONGS TO THE PLAYSTATION3!
Tyler Hartman // April 14, 2008 at 9:00 pm
GIVE US NEW MAPS!
daprofessor217 // April 14, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Tyler I don’t think M$ exclusive rights are up yet. Also the GOTY will be a waste of money, you will pay $60 for the same game that was released in November. All the GOTY will contain is a code to download the maps for free and maybe a prettier cover.
Tyler Hartman // April 15, 2008 at 2:30 am
i hate it when they give all the good stuff to the F.N.G.s instead of us veteran players
UltimaX27 // April 15, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Wow… Cry cry cry. When it comes out it comes out. No sense in acting like a bunch of babies over it. I think it has to be one of the greatest games in a LONG LONG time. I am having fun the way it is right now. When the DLC comes out it will be that much better. Just enjoy it for what it is.
UltimaX27 // April 15, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Oh, and those screaming “What about the PS3 community”… Give me a break. You cry just because you aren’t getting your rumble? You have no clue. I have been a developer for 10+ years and all I can say is it’s not magical dust. When there is a kernel/core change then it’s not so simple. It would be nice to have a mute in the lobby, rumble, etc, but am I going to cry like a little girl because of it? No.
Tyler Hartman // April 15, 2008 at 9:05 pm
1st of all, there is IN GAME MUTE, which is where it matters. all you have to do is hit the select button, scroll down to the player who is annoying u, and press the X or A button depending on your system
Tyler Hartman // April 15, 2008 at 9:11 pm
2nd, only one prson said COD4 isn’t a good game. we’re, (or at least I) are just anxious to get the DLC and ticked off that those on Xbox Live seem to get so spoiled and get them 3 weeks ahead of time.
Tyler Hartman // April 15, 2008 at 9:17 pm
3rd, just as a question, how long does it take to play and certify the maps? it’s been a week with still no word on what has happened. wouldn’t it have been easier to certify the PS3 and Xbox 360 DLC at the same time? or is it just because people like Xbox better?
whocares // April 16, 2008 at 12:16 am
also if the “store was down ” is why we didnt get the maps then they better be there this thursday cause the store is back up and running …. otherwise we know the truth for sure then…. microsoft has to pay for loyalty(ex. first shot at content,GTA4’s DLC) sony’s comes free …hmmm makes you think …well if most of you had a brain then maybe
xXrebelionXx // April 18, 2008 at 12:56 pm
To those saying CoD4 is the best PS3 game: You guys need to try some other games. Unreal Tournament 3 is a much better alternative, and in-fact, I just traded in CoD4 to Gamestop to help pay for it. Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank and Warhawk all are much more fun to play too. Hell, even Pixel Junk Monsters is more fun than the buggy piece of s*** we call Call of Duty. CoD4 would be be better, if IW actually fixed all the f’ing problems with it.
Anyways, I’m off to play some UT3, and I’ll actually be able to finish a match without having some sort of problem, unlike you suckers who still try to play CoD4 online. The single player in UT3 is much better too, by the way.
