The ‘Most Played Games on Xbox Live’ list has been posted yet again on Major Nelson’s blog, and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has been holding onto the #1 spot for several months now. We revealed recently in a Eurogamer article that there are between 1.2 and 1.3 million gamers playing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on Xbox Live EVERYDAY! With the numbers on PSN being “monstrously huge” in the words of our Producer, Mark Rubin.
So when I post the Top Games of Xbox Live update every few weeks, think of it as a huge thanks to all of you guys, those 1.3 million of you who are logging into multiplayer every day to shoot each other in the face; because without you it wouldn’t be possible.
With the Variety map pack hitting this past week and a record breaking amount of people downloading them, I hope we can keep that number one spot for a while and make anyone who takes it from us really have to fight for it.
To continue to show our appreciation for you guys logging in every night, and to celebrate the success of the map pack (also the fact that we’ve gone insane), we’ll be extending DOUBLE XP AGAIN! You can continue to get double XP throughout today (Tuesday) until Wednesday morning….. then that’s it….. seriously…. no more after Wednesday morning…. I mean it this time.
Seriously though, thank you thank you thank you for all the support you guys have shown the game. We by far have the greatest game community I’ve ever been a part of (as a gamer).

Some questions:
1) Can you tell us when we can expect the DLC for the PC? Is it about 8 weeks or can we play the new maps about 2 or 3 weeks?
2) How much will the DLC cost on the PC? How do you want to import the Map pack to the PC?
3) How will the servers be made to play with non-dlc and dlc players?
4) Does patch 1.6 include anything else, except the usermap fixes and the new killcams?

We have tried foruzerotwo, to play other games. Frontlines came out and we bought it asking in our forums…will this replace COD4?
I can’t even find my disk….
Then the beta for Battlefield. My top brass leaders looked at it and said…this might beat COD4.
Haven’t seen the “DICE” show up in my friends playlist for weeks now.
Then Rainbow Six Vegas 2…and OMG! It has a sprint button, and I can shoot throgh walls, and XP ranking! They are making a run at COD4!
I even made my co-leader buy that game…which he now says I owe him 60 bucks cause the game is poo….I played it and almost puked. It’s not even next gen…

Regrettably there are a lot of NOOBS(!) that download the game and generate keys with keygenerators. I hate those guys, they’re to lazy to buy the game!
I am serious, this is gonna be a big problem in the PC Game Industry… And the real fans who bought the game (like me, on the relase date ^^) suffer the consequences.
I will pay for the maps, if they ‘re not free. But I am afraid a lot of people won’t do it…

While people download the game, they are not able to play on the legal servers. Basically, any servers that you see while you are on the legal version of the PC, they can’t play on. They have to set up “cracked” servers, which allows them to play. I am sure that Infinity Ward will also work on fixing this in a patch. It doesn’t bother me too much, they aren’t as bad as the hackers. *Shakes fist*

im confused, so PS3 is sitting here waiting for the new maps, yet xbox 360 is the one getting more and more double xp. IF THE GAMES NUMBER ONE THEN WORK ON ANOTHER SYSTEM! I sold my COD4 and paid $5 for GTA IV since 1) IW keeps blowing us PS3 and PC users off 2) horrible marketing plan for PS3. 3) the party system and network config stinks for PS3 cod4, i have multiple other online games and none of them have few if any of the problems cod 4 has online. way to ruin great thing

So ive emailed, Posted blogs, even messaged you on myspace 402. I STILL get no responce to any of my questions about this game.
1. MAKE A PLAYER MATCH OPTION ( NO XP earned and the host can choose the map, settings, whatever… Just like cod2) Its not the same as a private match because it has an active server so people can join games just like the ranked matches. Im sick of playing stupid maps and having no controlle of the options or maps. Those who are in 10th prestege do not care about xp and need somthing to play. GIVE US THIS FEATURE.
2. CTF- CTF is the best game type from cod2, it needs to be in 4. Sabatoge isnt the same thing at all. If you think it is your stupid people.
3. Melee knife- TAKE THE DAMN DRAG OFF OF IT. IT I WANTED TO BE PULLED TO THE GUY IM TRYING TO MELEE ID PLAY HALO. the melee in cod2 was sooo much nicer and actually took skill to sneak up behind him and wack him. The knife would be cool if it didnt pull you to the enemy.

ExtremeOne- Then obviously you arnt a “FAN” of the COD series. They have always had player matches rather then GAY ranked only. If you dont want somone picking your stuff then you would get ur own room so you could do it. But in all reality it works really well if you have a vocal room. People will say what they want and dont want. It i want to play to 500 with no time limit then I should be able to. It i want to play china town 5 times in a row then I should be able to. It all about choice and options for the lobby. Currently IW has givin us minimal options with cod4. (BESIDES THE VOTE TO SKIP)
This is a very critical option in my eyes for those who have grown tired of the current setup and ranking bull crap and just want to play what they want, when they want. Its not rocket science. Its very possible to do and should have been implemented from the start. Ranked is nice until its maxed out and then what?

We know Killhouse is in Team Tactical and Cage Match but we want to know if it will be added into H.Q. and Domination you can’t play those 2 types with a standard 6player team. It should have been included in varitey team objective, I guarantee a lot of people would be a lot more into the new maps if it was. Shipment is probably 70% of players favorite map Killhouse can be the same and give us a change of pace to the larger maps, so in short please add Killhouse to H.Q and Domination rotations

I am a fan of Call of Duty 4 since its in modern warfare. If you want to be able to set up your own rules then play private matches or play the pc version of the game. I could care less what was done in the past with COD 1 and 2 or 3 . Its a very stupid idea.

The Console Wars Soldiers aren’t getting any smarter. On either side of the battlefield. If you guys could get into your narrow minds, that choosing what platform you use for gaming has nothing to do with how much money you have on your bank account (or in the “soldiers” case your PARENTS bank accounts) or how many active brain cells one have between the ears. @OIFmedic: wtf is a “broke-box”? Are you referring to the WAAAY to common RROD failure? If so you should call it BROKEN-box. (Just for you information, XBOX systems manufactured after july 2007 very rarely get that failure.) Or are you referring to the amount of money put into the platform system by its manufacturer? If so, you should compare company financial reports from Sony and Microsoft. Im not saying that the XBOX 360 is a better console. It isn’t! Its just DIFFERENT from a PS3.

If you are going to complain, do it in a constructive way. There ARE issues that needs to be solved regarding CoD 4 (all platforms) and the team at IW needs to be better in relaying news and answering questions. But I for one have noticed an improvement, at least from 402’s side, over the last couple of days.

@ Those Asking About Rumble: As I’ve said, there are no plans to add rumble to CoD4 PS3, the Rumble tech / support for the PS3 came way to late in Call of Duty 4 to be implemented, we’re almost half a year out since launch and it would require a major code overhaul to add that sort of feature in now.
What a load of bullshit!.. RESISTANCE was a PS3 release title, it was out on November 14, 2006 and yet they were able to implement “Rumble” via a patch on November 2007. About the same time CoD4 came out.
Now you mean to tell us that you are not capable of doing the same? Even after you already have the “Rumble” coding for the Box version you have no way of bringing it over to the PS3 version? Shit! that right just lets us know how capable the guys at IW are…
Oh and by the way, Resistance which was released on 2006 was able to have in-game XMB friends list located within the online menu. Did that came out too late for you guys to also implement?

STOP WHINING! All you douchebags ever do is talk about how amazing the ps3 is, but then all I ever hear is whining and crying. Does the Ps3 have better hardware? Yes…well a better processer anyway. 360 has better online support, less lag, smoother interface, and loads more games. Not to mention the games that are ported to both systems are consistently better on the Xbox. Also, most games that are ported to both systems have worse framerates, more hiccups, and lower res graphics. And you can buy all of this for one to two hundred dollars more than a 360. Oh wait, I haven’t addressed the fact that you can watch blu-ray dvds on it. ok, you can….good for you guys. BUT when I buy a video game console, I buy it to play VIDEO GAMES, not to watch movies. No plans for rumble support means no plans for it. Wether they are capable or not is besides the point. They simply won’t implement it! That might be stupid/ignorant/unwise/cost efficient/good for business/bad for business and it might piss PS3 owners off. But it still is an answer to your question.
I miss features from other titles in my XBOX version of CoD 4 too. That doesn’t mean that they are going make their way inside this game just because Im being an obnoxious prick about it (Im not saying you are an o-p though).
I can agree with you that rumble support should be standard these days. But doesn’t that say more about the development behind PS 3 than IW, when game studios have to patch in features like that?

On the matchmaking I totally agree with you, eventhough 402 has answered your question on that topic too. The matchmaking is a shamble on the 360 as well (compared to other games). This is such an essential feature of online gaming that it MUST work and IW has clearly cut some corners here. Blame it on Demonware or whatever, but come up with a solution. As a 360 player I can’t complain about not finding games, but every 2nd or 3rd game gets ruined by lag/latency. I almost never get matched with people from the same region as me and I very rarely get to host eventhough Im on a 100/100 fibre connetion. As I understand it, the matchmaking on the PS3 version is even worse. Well IW, if fixing these issues means a large “code overhaul” you better get busy doing it…

I think i have a pretty good idea on how to improve the game play that hasn’t already been thought of (i haven’t seen it written anywhere). How about, when you pick up the weapon of the guy you have just killed, you can also have the option of picking up his perk 1 item. For example if he had the 3 frag perk and only used 1 then you should be able to pick up the remaining 2. The same would go for claymores, c4 etc… What do the rest of you think of this???

Please put the new maps in ALL playlists.
More XP makes me think that it’s a way of sweetening the community before you tell us the maps won’t be in all playlists until next week or something.
They were meant to be in today (Tuesday).

Fourzerotwo, top marks on the new maps and a big thanks for the double XP. I prestiged up again on Saturday morning and hit a 30 rank last night!
Great fun, great maps, but there’s one problem. I get sent games to review, and so far, Frontlines, Burnout Paradise and Army of Two haven’t even made it past the five minute play marker.
My wife keeps telling me that I have no idea how a real marriage works, and will probably sue IW one day over our divorce.
Please let us know when IW opens it’s first CoD Anonymous office so that some of us can be weaned off it!

STOP WHINING! All you douchebags ever do is talk about how amazing the ps3 is, but then all I ever hear is whining and crying. Does the Ps3 have better hardware? Yes…well a better processer anyway. 360 has better online support, less lag, smoother interface, and loads more games. Not to mention the games that are ported to both systems are consistently better on the Xbox. Also, most games that are ported to both systems have worse framerates, more hiccups, and lower res graphics. And you can buy all of this for one to two hundred dollars more than a 360. Oh wait, I haven’t addressed the fact that you can watch blu-ray dvds on it. ok, you can….good for you guys. BUT when I buy a video game console, I buy it to play VIDEO GAMES, not to watch movies. Save your money, get a 360 and buy a ps3 in about three years when it’s actually a smart investment.

It’s absolutely amazing how many people come onto this blog to try and piss on a game that we all know they play 24/7.
This game, for me, ranks right up there with my best video game investments in terms of hours of play for cost. BF2 and Forza2 are the only things even close.
Other than riding the little rocking horse that costs a penny outside the grocery store…I don’t know of anything else I could do for 5 months straight on $60.

me and the entire competitive community still want a system link fix. No create a class on Lan simply means there wont be any lans. MLG has already stated that they won’t put cod4 at their lan events until this issue is resolved.

I really hope this double XP business goes down as planned this time.
As one of the few 10th prestigers who don’t play with other 10th prestigers all day, I’m not enjoying the fact that since I wanted to play with my friends, I was stuck playing the same 3 maps for the past 120 hours.
Just throw them into the normal playlist already, because a decent chunk of the community doesn’t need these points, and would much rather having the maps they payed for not be limited to a stale rotation.

The PS3 doesn’t have the maps because if you haven’t noticed the PSN has been down for quite some time. When it comes back you’ll get your turn at the maps.

I always figured people playing on LANs and the MLG guys prefered this. Otherwise, why would anyone dare take prestige. You take it, then find out that there is a lan in a couple weeks, you then have to try to get all of your stuff back. Also it helps to keep things balanced in MLG matches as it gives everyone set classes to choose from.

Hey FourZero! Gotta compliment everyone at IW on the great work on the new DLC. I noticed a VERY nicely done cemetery on Creek while floating around in Free Spectator. This would be an amazing place on it’s own for a firefight. Any thought of doing some sort of ‘creepy’ map for Halloween? Like a cemetery at night with a full lit moon!?

I cannot make this clearer - fix the host migration. All of the posts about CoD4 being no #1 on xbox live mean nothing if most people have massive lag problems!
