360 this- 360 that, yet you never say anything about the PC. In all honesty it is quite obvious that the 360 is like your favorite child. Xbox live broke this record, Xbox gets this, Xbox that. PS3 is your slightly dysfunctional child, you have some problems getting things working but you always are there to fix it up or comfort them.. Us PC users are like your smart neglected child. We don’t require much, it would be the easiest for you to just release the maps to us on PC, yet you never seem to address us or sympathize with us. I’m tired of waiting and being nice and being patient

Mitch. it’s all about the money. the PC market is rampant with piracy and as far as i can see, Sony doesnt push PSN nearly as hard as MS pushes XBL. the game developer can only do so much. also, why complain about the PC not receiving attention? you guys can do whatever you want and create whatever map you want to play on while the consolers must “patiently” wait on what the developer doles our way.

On the PC side of things the Patch is in queue to finish internal QA for release. The Community Mapping Content has come to an end and we’ll be putting out an open call for all the maps you guys have created to be submitted as well as releasing details on the prizing and how the winning maps may be showing up. We have some awesome prizing I’m anxious to finalize and announce to you guys. I’ve been keeping tabs on the Beta / Released maps in the Mapping forums on Infinityward.com and there are some great ones.
In addition to that details are being finalized as to getting the map pack to the PC users as well. I can’t speak specifics just yet as everything is being cemented now, but it sounds like good news.
Let me know if you guys have any questions or concerns in the meantime, but it sounds like next week is going to be the most informative when it comes to what’s shaping up on the PS3 and PC side of things.

As for the PC version, Patch 1.6 will be the one that introduces the new Kill Cams and other features the console feature patches received for you guys. The work is done on that patch and it’s essentially awaiting and going through internal QA here at Infinity Ward and then Activision. The good thing about the PC version is it doesn’t require any certification so as soon as it’s finished internal QA it heads out the door to the players. I will try to get a full list of what PC Patch 1.6 includes as I believe there are a few more PC specific things in there besides just the added Kill Cams and such.

For PS3 gamers like myself, blame Sony not IW. The only reason 360 has the maps right now is because Microsoft likes big events and loves to push things to the market so they can make as much $$$ as soon as possible. If you read 402’s post yesterday you would know that we are only waiting for Sony’s stamp of approval. Point is, don’t bash 402 and the IW team, bash Sony for not being as competitive, lack of communitity events, and being slow to bring products to the market.

Why exactly is Sony to blame in all of this? because IW is on the take from MS? It’s not the oft-cited PSstore excuse, because the ps3 DLC was delayed in even going to certification, and the delay was announced weeks before PSN maintenance. And it’s not like IW has given disproportionate attention to the Xbox, why, just look at the posts on 402’s blog. Isn’t it 12-2 or something, the number of Xbox posts to ps3 posts?

Though, i do have to hand it to IW. They’re pretty damn creative to make the Marines say “Hooah” (it’s an Army term). I’m pretty sure saying that to a Marine is one of the easiest ways to get punched in the face. Real Marines use the term interchangably with “shit” as in “I went to the can and took a Hooah.” IW also figured out how to make the military form of the M14 semi-automatic, instead of being an M1A which is the term for current use “semi-auto M14″
Then there’s the creativity 402 exercises daily to avoid ps3 users’ issues, and find some new way to address Xbox users, even in the “most informative” week for the PS3.

We need player matches 402. I want to be able to be host of my lobby and pick the maps, game type, score limit, time limit, etc from the lobby. It was in cod2 but suddenly its gone. Im dont with my ranks so I dont care about XP anymore. Give us somthing to continue playing the game for. I want to be able to play the maps ‘MY” lobby wants to play not whatever random map comes up. This is garbage. Ive wrote and wrote to you many times and I get no reply. This is somthing that should have been included in the game from the start. Its standard in many FPS games. Ranked and private is all you give us. PLAYER matches would kinda be inbetween with no xp rewarded and an active server with people just looking to play.

Personally I can’t understand what the SAS counter terrorism units are doing in the game in the first place. Anybody with a tiny bit of knowledge about miltary units and their equipment knows that SAS uses “black” and “green” outfits depending on what task they are given. With the type of “missions” in CoD 4 they should have camouflage (DPM probably) gear and not the black ones…
It would be nice to have the option to choose camouflage patterns (or have suitable ones pre-selected). Instead of ultra-ugly camo patterns for the weapons, make it possible to unlock Flecktarn, DPM and similar for the uniforms.

Thats a cool idea I think… might even be a way to add it to unlocking them at each Prestige mode, thereby increasing play. (All those who are already at the highest Prestige [however they got there] would get them already… )
And I do wholeheartedly agree that PC and PS3 are getting short handed, but trying to see there are reasons for it (other than the MS payoff). I am a PS3 user… and expect that the interest is shown by action, not just talk. I mean XBox users are getting shown the support others are expecting. I think its great that XBox is getting the support it gets, they are gamers too. And it is proof that it can be done… for every platform… it just isn’t apparent.
I am sure Sony held off on the map release due to they are revamping it… but also because they would expect a HUGE overload of people trying to download the maps (remember.. it crashed XBox’s) at the same time that OTHER items were being made available (HOME?). And it was this crash that made the Double XP weekends available (for both consoles), so it would take another on the PS3 to make that happen (unless IW was feeling generous.. for making PS3 wait).
PC users seem to get shafted even more… which does suck.. but with all of the customizations that PC can do, developers must think them as more capable and independant… so they don’t show the love as much. But they will get the new maps eventually… most likely after every other platform has paid for theirs… as even PC users know they would be pirated way too easily, not that that should be any reason for delaying the inevitable. I mean everyone knows it will happen… go ahead and get it over with, LOL!

And definitely not THE reasons why things are done… just trying to see other reasons, as opposed to the rash of rumor and speculative ones based on (somewhat valid) emotional expressions. Actually Frank, in MP when the Marines win, they say “Hooah, good work Marines.” Not “Oorah” which is what the Marines actually use. The Marines, in their “rivalry” with the Army, use the term “Hooah” in a derogative manner. They’re not the same thing, in case you weren’t aware.

They are doing the best they can, if they can’t get the new maps our for the PS3 or PC then guess what guys? You better buy yourself a 360, it’s not like their trying to lose business here. Just want to say 2 things, i’m a bit unhappy with the LIVE fire weekend not available to UK Customers, SAD really.
And this last thing, this is to ‘Jesse’, the reason that COD4 Playlist’s are not like COD2 is this, When i played COD2, I was forever going’ Nah don’t like this map, game type etc’.
I was a bit upset at this factor, but the more and more I payed COD4, the more I got used to ALL maps and now, whatever map shows up, I will play. This keeps the Live community tighter so you can’t just choose the map you want ALL the time, It does make sense what they did to this game.
Remember this 1 point, ALL the other COD games were made by the developers on a sungle player basis THEN they thought bout Multiplayer.
With COD4 the developers concentrated wholly on THE MP and then made the single player mode at a leter stage, so I’m very sure that all the developers had a good reason to make COD4 this way.
GIve the Infinity Ward guys a break, they have made the Best game ever made for a console (don’t disagree, you know it’s true, Halo 3 - PAH)
It’s a wicked game and they are trying their hardest everyday they go to work to keep this interesting for us.
You watch, in the near future there will be more maps, more playlist game types and so forth.
I don’t think it’s a very good idea for any company to put all their egg’s in one basket at one time just like sony did with the PS3, that console was made to last 10 years, PAH, it’ll be out of date in 5 years when MS release the next gen XBOX, shame on you if you bought a PS3.

You make a couple of points well taken. I’ll tone down my rhetoric, as I was particularly harsh last night. But in addition to lives, these guys have jobs. It’s not too much to ask that the director of communications answer some easy questions about issues the ps3 users are having. We still haven’t gotten word about what was included in the last patch. Xbox had a post about it when the patch was release, and ps3 has nothing. There’s still some major issues ps3 users are having, and although we got a few half-responses (not even in a blog post, but in the comments), it’s nothing like the treatment Xbox has gotten. well if this is the most imformative week for ps3 + pc users then i must admit, i have been really informed about… o nothing. but i have heard a lots of things for the 360 :S i really dont understand…
and for those who are saying pc doesnt deserve support because 3/4 of the community pirated the game, wow narrow minded or what? there isn’t as many pirated cod 4 pc version games as you may think, and tbh… the 360 might have as many pirated copy’s as the pc… but noboady knows.

Mike have you been to the forums? There’s a section for PC, Xbox and PS3 (in no particular order). 402 quite often posts on the Xbox forum, and NEVER on the PS3 (idk about PC, but I’m guessing they’ve also been ignored) since our latest patch.
This is not an issue about ‘which is the best console’ (etc etc…everyone yawns). If I had the money i’d buy an Xbox too (as this game doesn’t work properly on PS3, and I’d also like to try Halo).
Please visit the PS3 forum for constructive, mature expressions of why we’re extremely upset with the ’support’ for this game on Playstation. I’m glad Xbox works for all you guys and you get a lot of support. We all just wish we had a little bit, we are not asking for the world.

Well said yakitako. Esp. about the forum being down for about 24 hours now. It does strangely seem to coincide with anything that comes about as news for anything BUT the PS3 (prolly pc too).
Seems instead of just plain ignoring the coming onslaught of questions they wont answer, they just plead plain ignorance.

IW why would sell us a game on the PC platform straight out of the box with so many fixes needed. And you’re answer seems to well its pirated to much so were not responsible to to fix the problems anymore. Its like O really you people took over 3-4 years to developed this game and you had no concerns about it being pirated. Hell you made and developed it and SOLD it to PC user as is. DON’T TELL US ABOUT YOUR LACK OF QA YOU PUT IT OUT TO THE CONSUMER THAT WAY. SO FIX IT OUR TAKE OFF THE SHELVES.

402 any news about what’s up with the forum and when it should be back online?
There are quite a few threads I’d like to post on, and particularly wanted to see if there’s been any comment from you on what was in the last PS3 patch (as we were given the wrong information by yourself prior to it, and haven’t yet been told what was in it, weeks later).
Also any news on the latest PS3 hacks, are those being addressed? I’d imagine you’d be hot onto that with the GOTY coming out soon, but my friend who’s hacked the game and posted on the forum offering to teach you guys how to fix it hasn’t been contacted. Really hope someone at IW’s onto that already. Care to give us some word?

There’s been plenty of people complaining about other issues still remaining on the ps3 (ACOG hit detection, Host Migration), please include Host Migration in the next patch. That’s the only thing that bothers me at this point aside from the whole “getting the shaft on rumble” thing (which i still don’t believe IW *can’t* implement, seeing as how the guys at Insomniac can pull it off Resistance).

To be fair, I own all the consoles. So what version of COD4 doesn’t bother me…
but I can see how ppl who exclusively own the ps3 version feel that they are being treated unfairly…even after paying $60 for the SAME GAME. IW can rationalize away the PC community, since they paid $10, but there’s no excuse for glaring ps3 ommissions.
Even if PC users paid less, in all fairness the features should roughly be the same just to be reasonable.

Funny… thing is what has botehred myself and many other articulate people at the IW forums is the lack of ability for IW or bowling to anser any of our important, valid, game related questions. We get no acknowledgement. Yet in a conference headed by m$ and of which mr bowling was an attendee on the panel (why I dont know) he made the following statement:
Bowling agreed that “being truthful and being honest with your community is the best thing you can do, even when it’s not what they’re going to hear and you’re going to get a negative response - put it out there and give a truthful reason… they’re not going to like it, and deal with the backlash the best you can.” He also noted that “The hardcore community is not just reading the personal forums, they’re also reading your personal blog, Twitter, MySpace.” Find out “…what they like, what they don’t like, know who the influencers are.” That is, who’s taking this info and putting it in other places.
WOW! That is good stuff 402? Did you quote me or yakitako or anyone else from the IW forum on that one, because that is what we have been telling YOU and IW! Oh that’s right.. that would require you to do your job and manage your community on your OFFICIAL forum. Your a PR guy… give your public some relations. And if your going to say something in public, know that it will hit the net somewhere and you will be held accountable for your words.
Meaning… the past indescresions by yourself and IW will cause myself, and many, many, who feel the same to never purchase an IW product again. And all we wanted was some communication.. good or bad. We asked for it verbatim.. just like that… “can we have some answers.. good or bad give us something!”
We got nothing.. so practice what you preach at your big MS conference on “staying in touch with your community, and using it as a tool” you tool.

Why does everyone make it seem as though the host migration “fix” for the Xbox is such a great thing? The game doesn’t continue to play when the host leaves. The only difference is that the random people you were playing with before all join up in the same room as you and you have to restart a match. It sucks just as much as it did before.

Hundreds of copies of COD4 for PS3 for sale on ebay.co.uk, wonder why?!
I’m just about to preorder GTA 4, and can almost pay for that game by selling COD4 - 402 please can you give us PS owners something - anything - that encourages us to keep hold of what was a great game?
As a side note, I know about the Xbox exclusive DLC for that game and don’t care at all - Rockstar have been upfront and honest about it. Communicate and people will understand! Don’t communicate and you have broken relations with a large group of customers, which is what we’re seeing here.

But the lack of support and sour taste left in my mouth from all this is starting to slowly creep in while I am loading up the game for quick session. And ruining the expeience because I feel things will never get better only because there is NO communication.

Well, after a hard week of work, 402 and the other “hard working” IW staff are doing this stupid live fire weekend. Because an event scheduled this week for Xbox takes precedence over existing ps3 issues and the information he said he’d provide.

@ ssjtiamat - I’ve just read the quote from 402 you posted earlier, and fell off my chair. Luckily Stephen Hawking is an old friend from Cambridge, and I phone and he’s willing to drop work on his new book on the end of the universe and try to reconcile that quote with the ‘customer service’ we’ve been seeing from IW and 402. Watch this space, but I must warn you he did say it might take longer than an all-encompassing work on the nature of everything.
@ Brian. Some great posts and points made. What’s your username on the forum? And do you have a friend with a 360 and a copy of this game. I do and am thinking of trying to get a game with these guys on it so I can try to put my questions to them in yet another way (that may be harder for them to ignore). Wanna party up for that?
@ Pwner. I agree, the M16 in addition to many other things seems a little bit different, but since we were mislead about the patch beforehand, weren’t told what was in it afterwards, and have only (grudgingly) told us weeks later that no, we CUSTOMERS weren’t imagining things, the Host Migration wasn’t after all included, I don’t think we can be very hopeful of ever hearing the truth (402 and IW please prove me worng on that, I’m begging you).
@ thebigb59. We obviously understood things differently, but perhaps I was completely mistaken and you’re quite right? I thought that blog entry here was titled ‘PS3 NOW in focus’ but it now reads differently. Have I gone crazy or have things been changed in order to save face (not that there’s much of that face left!!)?
