We’re getting ready to announce official submission guidelines / location for the Community Map Contest. In the coming week or so we’re going to be letting you know where you can go to officially sign-up and submit your Custom Community Map on the PC. It will also have a list of all official prizing that the winning map will walk away with. We’ve secured some nice prizes so I’m anxious to get this thing kicked off and a winner announced.
I should also have some official news for you on the status of the potential map pack release on the PC along with the Community Map Contest news. So expect that news in the near future as well.
I know a lot of you use the IW forums to keep track of the contest as well as new maps being posted on there, and we’re aware it is currently down. The Activision server used to host our forums is having some problems and they’re working on getting it back up and running. Meanwhile we’ve been working on getting a new Infinity Ward website and dedicated forum built which will replace our current one and become the source for all official news and activity. That’s several months down the road though, but just wanted to let you know something better (forum wise) is in the works.

I don’t know, have you seen any of the user created maps? They Official Map Pack is OK but some of the Unnoffical maps are amazing.

Also, I have CoD 4 for both the 360 and PC so I see both sides first hand and must say I rather play the user maps.

Potential.. map pack.. release..? The ONLY hold up here is for IW to make their grubby profit off the consoles by selling these maps. There is NO certification needed to release these on PC so there is NO other excuse as to why we don’t have them already.

There is allready a list of all the Maps Submited into this competition on the IW Mapping Forums @ http://www.infinityward.com/community/forum/index.php?topic=12790.0 updated by the Forum Moderators upto the Closing date.
I think it is a bit unfair for those mappers including myself that Got the editor learnt to use it and created a map within the time period of 1st Feb - March 31st that maps finished after this time period look like they will also be allowed to enter the competition especialy as some of those maps had been started before the competition was even announced.
Everyone on the forums was under the impression that the list compiled by the IW Mapping Forum Moderators of all the Maps with [RELEASE] in the topic upto 31st March were the Entries into this competition. Why have you changed this??

Come on! This is all the news we can get? I’m getting kinda pissed… You told us about two weeks ago that we were gonna get news about the map pack last week and now all we get is “I should also have some news about the potential map pack release on the PC”…
Here’s some suggestions for you to make things easier with map pack:
1. Release it with a future patch, maybe two three months into the future and then make it free on the Xbox LIVE marketplace (like they did with Halo 3’s Heroic Map Pack, remember?).
2. Make more maps, new campaign missions and release everything in an expansion within a (hopefully) not too distant future. (That way you’ll also get you precious cash, nifty, right?)
3. Just screw the map pack for the PC, give us those contest winning maps and be very much less liked by the PC community for all time… (Alot of people, including me, will appreciate the mod maps, but we also want official maps, if you screw us over with that you won’t get too popular among PC gamers anymore, since you showed you can let the 360/PS3 owners have those maps)
There’s also the Battlefield way of releasing the map pack, in booster packs. But that sucks and will kill the community, you wouldn’t want that right?
(By the way, Option 1 will make you really loved among the PC community, and number 2 too…
I hope you guys make a wise decision about this… And the 1.6 patch would be nice too.

Wow… In case you haven’t noticed, the PC Gamers (including myself) are furious over this whole bias towards the 360/PS3. Did IW forget that the PC community is the ONE that made CoD popular? I guess you just have your heads so far up 360’s arse that you’ve forgotten that. Spending some time on the PC would be much appreciated. As for the “contest”, WTF? Your non-updated IW page still has “we’ll be picking the winners March 31″. Apparently you only have ten people working at IW, or you all are horrible at multi-tasking. Potential release of map pack for PC? Common! The maps were created on PC… How hard can the “logistics” be? And, if you’re going to abandon us, at least give us a patch to make modded servers ranked, so we can use our own maps ffs.

i understand there is a lack of support but since when did buying a video game entitle everyone to so much i understand it has sold millions of copies and is the highest played game currently but it entitles us to nothing. i have the game on the pc as well as the 360. IMO the “lack of support” has also came on the 360 end like around christmas when i experienced xbox live problems due to live being overloaded what support did the 360 users recieve for that, we got a cheap ass game which is worthless. what about when call of duty broke the servers whenthe new maps came out we got keep trying it will work eventually and before you yell at me more i know you have been waiting as long as everyone else but the new maps are not even anything special i would personally love to get the pc made maps onto xbox live and psn there are some that just make the old maps look blahhh. again my bad on you taking it the wrong way it just everytime i get on here all that is happening is crying.

I’m not really concerned about the map pack at all. All I’m asking is for the ability for us PC users to modify the servers to our liking. WE pay for the servers, therefore we should be able to do as we wish with them (e.g. add user created maps, tune down the hacking helicopter, and give me a gold MP5 :D) without the server going “unranked”. The only thing I’m jealous of regarding the console is prestige mode.

I’ve had this vision of an expansion, just bits of it but still I’ve got a vision of it. What I’d really like is an expansion that truly expands the story (lol, sounds silly), more of the russian civil war stuff, but you can play us russians (the good ones). Some fighting in russian towns and more story overall about it would be sweet.
Then I’ve been thinking about some missions in China, I don’t know exactly why the bad guys would be there still awesome though, playing as a SAS guy in a pitch dark street where you gotta have night vision, and you use silenced weapons and so on… Then some missions in maybe London or something, preventing some kind of ultranationalist assault or something… That’d be sweet.
And of course there should be more MP maps, weapons, perks (maybe not too many of those), CODTV, CTF, really dark maps that almost requires night vision, more close-quarters, more open maps…
Maybe it will all happen after all?

I have a PC and as for your my dad is bigger than your dad comment:
well my graphics card is more than your whole 360
I also have a graphics card, but the all round game play on the 360 is better, I have it on PS3 also and I have to say, XBOX 360 is by far the best for gameplay, service, community and you don’t get and hackers, cheaters or 5 year olds like you do on the PC version!
If you haven’t extensively tested out each platform then you can’t possibly comment, I can and I have!!!!

Jum, you HAVE to pay for Xbox LIVE to play anything at all online on 360… Unless you’ve got some different LIVE where you live. The 360 is awesome, but in my opinion when it comes to FPS-games the PC is WAY superior. The mouse and keyboard combo gives one hell of a lot better precision than the 360 controller in my opinion (opinions opinions…
and it’s just better overall for shooters. The 360 controller still is one of the better controllers for FPS games in my opinion, but nothing beats my mouse+keyboard.
And those five year olds you mentioned… Haven’t noticed much of them on the PC version, but they’re everywhere on Xbox LIVE, and they’re damaging my ears!!! xD
The cheaters are a VERY small minority of the PC gamers, I don’t consider it that much of a problem… It hasn’t turned big-scale, yet.
As some have mentioned already, the PC has mods, sure, it’s not official maps and they aren’t ranked. But it sure is a really good source of keeping the variety in the game for those who want to try that out, and it’s free. Unlike those official maps… Or maybe they’ll be free on the PC afterall?
And yeah, 50 bucks a year isn’t much for me either, but compared to pay nothing extra for playing CoD4 online on the PC… 50 backs=VERY MUCH MORE THAN ZERO! xD

jum, seriously grow up, 5 year olds like me, well i think you will find the mean age on the 360 is far less to the one on the pc. and you must pay for xbox live, its not because you want to, and their is not as many cheaters as you will think, and i have looked at all versions of the game! my YOUNGER brother has it, for the 360 and ps3, and i must say a fps on a controller? :S… those controllers where made for games like FIFA, NHL, GTA etc, not fps… their terrible if the enemey is behind you, you take ages turning half way around and by that time you dead, ( and yes that was on high sensitivity ) 360 is best for gameplay? i would have to say i think their all the same, but on the pc version you dont get as many kids calling you a noob because you are using a granade launcher or juggernaut, or last stand, and if your on your last prestige you are automatically have no life? the community on the pc is better than on the 360 i would say because we have been around since call of duty 1.

First, the gaming population on PC is on average, far older than the console gamers. Kids don’t ask their parents for a new EVGA GPU for christmas, they ask for a gaystation3 or noob box (BTW my GPU alone cost more than either of these consoles, so don’t think I’d have any issues paying for a subscription). I think it is amazing that the people that were last on the list IW list of importance ,the PC gamers, should have their hard work on the maps given to the console gamers. we, the PC gamers have had to wait for more than long enough, still no patch! Lets give the console gamers the maps that were developed by the PC COMMUNITY for a PRICE and GIVE that to the developers of the maps WITHOOUT IW taking a cut of it what so ever. Once again I think IW is striving to be more like EA than they should …. IW should pay more attention to the actual gamers and quit making the divide between the different consoles and the the PC gamers even larger than it already is.
IW is going to take the work of other put their stamp of approval on it and make it playable across all platforms …. HMMM OK 27 maps in various stages of development have been mothballed …. our map makers and skinners are more than just a little upset with the whole process and right now we have on offer over 73 COD4 PC games on our clan forums … without one response at all I might add.
IW get your act together you give 402 a job then stick him on the front lines with out any ammunition to hold back the onslaught that you create. I would not like to have to troll through all the garbage that gets slung at 402 on this site and just because his bosses are not doing their job to being with.

I noticed alot of suppositions as well. Should, looks good, etc. Sounds like a disclaimer if it don’t happen. I think the PC users have every right to be mad. We were here well before console users, yet we are the last on the new maps. Shows you where priorities lie. Their loyalty is to the almighty dollar and not the people who came up with them.

I was talking about people degrading others (e.g. your virgin comment). The PC comment was a generalization. I don’t need to lower myself to your standards by calling other people names. As for your “pecking order”, I don’t really care. We’ve got user created maps that surpass the DLC in terms of quality. I know this because my fifteen year-old cousin has an XBox. Although we may be at what you call “the bottom of the pecking order”, we’re at the top of the gaming evolutionary ladder. Console guys wouldn’t have a clue on how to create a map.
With that being said. Please go back to your console side forum, where I’m sure your all giving each other big group hugs because you got the DLC first. Which, in fact, has nothing to do with you or other XBox owners. Obviously IW and Activision see XBox as the largest contributor of revenue. We get our content free.
And, I am a UFC fan. I look forward to watching St-Pierre pwn Serra!

Unfortunately that’s the way it is bud… Like all companies, the number one goal is to increase shareholder vale (e.g. profitably grow revenue). So of course the console users will get new content first, because they’ll pay, whereas we will not. The console gamers would be infuriated if we got the content at the same time as they did, at no cost.

What I use depends on the situation and all systems have their pros and cons. One thing all systems with online capability have in common are the cheaters, glitchers, team killers and morons…
Now, I’ll get back to playing CoD 4 on my 360, where the online play is the best by far (I have it for PC and PS3 too so unlike many others in here, I can actually make a comparison based on facts) until one of the cool releases for PS3 comes out. If my friends come over we’ll play some Wii together. Life sucks, doesn’t it?

If you can’t drop an issue that has obviously gotten out of hand, use your own name to make yourself look like a tool, not another persons. Whoever it is, at least pay attention to detail and realize I have bars around my name.

Could it be that the revenue from XBL makes it a better service than the Playstation equivalent? I play on both networks and XBOX Live is waaaay better. And can it be that Microsoft spends some of the revenue on customer support? When my first 360 got the RROD after the waranty expired, UPS was just a phone call away and came to my door, picked up the broken 360, sent it to Germany and returned it two weeks later. Free of charge even if the waranty had expired…. When my bluray player in my PS3 broke down I had problems to get hold of Sony in the first place. I then had to take my machine back to the retailer. After 10-15 phone calls, I finally got some news on the replacement parts. And after 3,5 weeks I could play on my PS3 again. And this hazzle was with a valid warranty.
If all you retards that flame MS just realise that they actually put SOME money back to add some customer value. What does Sony do? Of course MS makes a lot of money. Thats the point of running a business.

The way I see it, different games suits different platforms. I mainly play military shooters on the 360. Sure, mouse and keyboard is faster but that doesn’t mean much when 99.999% of the players use the same gear. My 42″ plasma screen, surround system, comfy armchair and the ease of playing on XBL also makes it an easy choice.
Some games, such as MMORPG’s and strategy games are excellent on the computer. I have a high end PC but I mostly use it for work. When I want to relax with a game, it feels good to actually leave my desk and crash in front of the TV and play games…
I mainly bought my PS3 to watch bluray movies, but also to play PS3 exclusive titles. Its a GREAT piece of equipment and it looks much better then my 360 Elite. But when it comes to multiplayer gaming, Microsoft is way ahead of Sony. There is also one positive thing with paying for a XBL acount. If you act like an idiot online MS can stop you from playing since you can’t be anonymous. Unlike what many people seems to believe, the “file complaint” feature actually works…

I also use my PC for work most of the time, but I am not comfortable gaming with a mouse and keyboard, I like my nice wireless control and my phat tv!
As for the “file complaint” feature, Ive seen my fair share of ‘Wildcats’ on XBL and my friends and I have filed complaints to no avail. Some cats like to stalk you!
I came on this site to get some info regarding the map making competition - only I was met with a rather childish response, I was also informed that console gamers can’t make maps, though I have and I want to enter the competition.
I do feel like Infinity Ward need to sort out their comms big time. PC gamers and PS3 users are crying because they aren’t getting the new maps as soon as the elite XBL users are. But I feel their pain, had they kept me waiting I’d not be happy. The map competition should have finished end of March, then FOURZEROTWO says they are still coming up with a way for us to submit our entries which is not only a bit late but vague as regards to whats going to happen with them!
And finally I must say that XBL is the best gaming experience ever, 1 million people have bought the DLC for COD4 thats like $12000000 dollars made in the space of 9 days, 4 million users alone for COD4, another $20000000 a month. Alot of these profits will be put back into XBL with regards to future DLC nad better games. If oyu have not already people, JUMP ON THE XBL BANDWAGON, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!

How many use all three main systems (PC, Xbox, Ps3)? It seems a bit stupid to shout about how superior your systems is if you havent tried the other ones. I use the Xbox because of the Xbox live service. Its simple to use and most of the time performance is great. When my friends wanna play they send a message from their Xbox straight to my mobile. Can you do that on the PS3 network? The PS3 is perhaps a more modern machine, but the PS3 network sucks compared to xbox live. And before, you ask - yes I have BOTH systems…
I agree with Gill and JUM above, when I wanna play games I prefer a console over the PC. My pc is good enough to run CoD 4 with excellent frame rate etc, but Xbox live is so much better for multiplayer gameplay.

I have all three systems (xbox, ps3, and PC). I play cod4 on all three (depends on the time, and what friends are playing). I definately like PC the best. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with the other consoles. Overall load times are faster, contrary to what others have been saying, I have not had a single problem with people cheating. PC is generally a much more mature area also. Whenever I’m on a console, it’s always “nigger this, nigger that”

Hey there, you started the biasing with “I chose to pay for Xbox LIVE” and your rant following that when I had just said that I liked it better not having to pay to play MP on PC (as I’d have to on the 360).
If you want to play anything online on the 360 you gotta pay, and that’s why you choose to pay for it, isn’t it? I pay for Xbox LIVE too, but I don’t play CoD4 on 360 since I prefer mouse and keyboard for FPS-games (and the fact that I don’t feel like buying the same game twice).

The same with LIVE, if you want to play there you have to pay. And since you wanted to play online, you HAD to choose to pay for it. Yes, you chose it. You could skip it, but since you like it better to play online on the 360 than anything else (as it seems by your comments) you HAD to make the choice to pay.

Clent No.9 - I respect your opinion, though loading times are no different in my experience and how much faster can they really be? I can turn my xbox on and be in a game with my friends online within 45 seconds, when I turn on a pc it can take ALOT longer than that so where you get a ‘load times are faster’ is beyond me. And if you haven’t experienced people cheating on the pc yet, then its all to come.

Load time for me is noticibly (sp?) quicker on my PC. I use servers by the =ROW= clan, and they always have admins in there, and is always a good group of people. On xbox, I go wherever my friends go, which is hit or miss. We’ve been in some really good games on xbox also.
