I was originally hoping we’d have all the details finalized for the upcoming launch of the Variety Map Pack on the PS3 by last week, but it’s been taking a bit longer than expected. The only thing we’re waiting on now is official dates, all the logistics are essentially worked out.
I got word today that the Variety Map Pack for PS3 has went amazingly well through Certification at Sony and they plan on having it available on the brand spanking new PSN store in the coming weeks. I’ll have an exact date for you in the very near future. I’ve seen mock-ups of the new PSN store and it looks cool, lots of new features to play around with so it’s going to be great to have the Variety Map Pack as one of the first new things available when it launches.
We’ll also be hosting a ‘Play With Infinity Ward’ event with the PS3 community when the map packs hit, I’ll post up details on that as soon as we have a firm date, as well as a Double XP weekend is in the works.
Again though, I was hoping we’d have the dates of all of this finalized by now, but I will post EXACT details and dates for the Launch of the map pack, the release of the GOTY Edition, and when you can expect Double XP weekend and Play with the devs to start.
The good news is we’ll be having all the same great promotions (i.e. Double XP Weekend, Play with Devs) on the PS3 just like we did on the Xbox 360 when we launch the Map Pack!

just wanted to say thanks for posting this FINALLY..
gut we already new pretty much everything you said. Except that we are going to get all of the special features XBOX has gotten.. x2 XP.. play with devs.. etc.. Although I would hope we would get the same features.. Seriously so this post even though it is good to see that your communicating again.. is really far from anything that I didn’t already know.. The CERT process went amazing.. Of course it did.. they are maps.. all SONY needs to do is combine into a PKG and encrypt them then set everything up for download..
i wish you would be real for once and explain why the hell their is still hacking on this game(SO MUCH HACKING)

My question is gamestops website says GOTY edition will be out April 24th when i went into one of thier stores here in St. Louis they told me they had a release date for May 6th, so whats the deal i paid $60 for a game and don’t even know when i can pick it up??? There are many legitimate questions that have been raised several times by ps3 users. You don’t seem to have addressed any of them in this post, so I hope you’ll take some time to respond. Some of these issues/questions are:
What exactly was included in the ps3 patch? We were never given any word. Was nything that actually fixed anything, adding the IW logo on everything and adding kill cams?
Why are people reporting worse hit detection/lag/desynch after the patch? It is not an isolated problem: sometimes emptying an entire clip into and enemy (and appears to hit on the console, showing the cross and the sound from a hit), has no result, other than suffering a quick death. A kill cam shows you standing there like an idiot.
Why is spawning so seriously screwed up after the patch-spawning in front of enemies, facing walls, into airstrikes? Are there any plans to change this? some games get unplayable once the player dies once.
And what’s the real reason for the delay of DLC? Before the Xbox maps were released, you “knew” they would be released approx. 21 days later.
There have been several stories going around that you guys were paid for exclusivity, but not a word from you. Yet when there were rumors of an Xbox delay, you took less than a day to quell them. The maps were even held for some time before going to Sony certification. You also had no problem “pushing certification” for Xbox (see your post denying the xbox delay), to make sure you made the release date, that you set weeks in advance, but PS3 users get nothing.
There have been many other excellent questions posed by the PS3 community, and if I have missed any, I hope that they will add them. I hope you’ll take the time to answer, but honestly, I’m not holding my breath.

Respectfully, it’s not just the release date informatione people are wanting. There is information he hasn’t given for about a month (like what was included in the patch). There are still issues people are having with the game.
And with regard to the release date, isn’t it odd that they were overflowing with information about the Xbox maps, and they were even willing to “push certification” to make sure it cleared certification and was released on the date they had set weeks before. We don’t see anything resembling that with the ps3.

The thing that really makes me laugh is the fact that people never think, they just go off and rant about the first thing they can think of.
Now stop and think for one second, this is a private unofficial blog 402 made to keep us up to the date with most things pertaining to CoD4, he cant say anything IW is not ready to officially release without putting his job on the line.
Also everyone is always saying IW favors the 360…why don’t you take a look at 402’s game list, than compare his 360 games with his PS3 games. See a difference??(specifically in the amount) I would bet money that he is a 360 gamer, and that is why he says so much more about the 360….he is more interested in it.
Now about IW and MS having a payoff?? Maybe Sony is just scrutinizes the patches/maps more, or has higher standards than MS. Once IW hands off the patch/maps to the respectful company it is out of their hands. They have no control over the release date.
Now grant it most PS3 relating things are delayed but could you please just grow up and stop spamming. I haven’t seen 402 reply to a question on this blog in about a month. I doubt he even reads most of the posts, he is too busy with the official forums.

The PSN store looks a hell of alot better. Soon the kinks will be worked out with the image errors, but you can still scroll around and it tells you what you are looking at in text form, which I guess was just a little too hard for Mike to figure out.

lol… after 402’s recent comments… I’m bout done. I have surprisingly had minimal errors in the game the last day or two. But the complete ignorance of all pertinent issues by 402 and IW has grown beyond frustrating. Store went live last night…. he posted last night…. but makes it sound like the store update is days away. You would think he would have had more info.

I personally am surprised that the people on this post act as if they know this business and understand what happened between IW and Sony. This is how businesses are run. Xbox did the right thing and got their shit together in time for the map packs. Sony dropped the ball.. simple as that. 402 is doing his job. I’m sure tons of lawyers are involved in revisions of contracts and such. Just enjoy what they have given you so far. It’s the best multi-player game of the year and you guys want to suck them dry.
Before you tear me apart.. I am a PS3 owner. I wish I had the new maps at this point in time, but I personally am in the music business (similar). I know things get delayed due to legal reasons more often than not. Just relax.. he probably can’t say much due to legalities.

I think the issues raised by the PS3 community have been heard… how could they not, when they are repeatedly posted all the time…
I agree that more communication is needed and some answers given, but you have to think… if any info that 402 posts runs into unforseen complications or delays, or is found to be just not possible to implement… there is an explosion of ridicule and controversy. Official details are always guarded and given out in small doses, to prevent this from happening. Again, I agree wholeheartedly that previous questions raised about things such as patch items and host migration should be further explained… or informed of possible work being done. But there are things that are of corporate nature to be understood with some items. There is no doubt… to me at least… that the DLC was delayed by Sony so they could market their GOTY edition console package. Most of us already have the game… why would we need to buy another? This is to increase the sales of those who dont have it, plain and simple. There are a lot more unknown behind the scenes corporate and marketing schemes… than just the exclusive rights or payoffs known to occur.
Besides… most of the things were explained already, yes briefly and without extensive detail, but explained or answered. (thanks to thebigb59’s post response). Everyone always states 402 is doing a lousy job…. I disagree. Could he respond more? Sure, but maybe he can’t. Walk a step, much less a mile in his shoes… and I am sure the results would be similar.

@BigB.. Who knows what’s on SONY’s mind. I know they had over 80,000 80 gigs recalled.. and they lose a load of money on each system sold. They also were revamping the online store. I can only assume that Sony are worried about the future of the PS3. They could have possibly had some people laid off, hired new people, etc.. Pushing the map pack back. I doubt Sony want to invest a few more million into one game much like XBOX360.. They have more games to make right now in order to stay competitive with the 360. It’s all politics. 402 probably has a good chunk of change in his pocket now.. but I’m positive they care about all platform users. However, they are businessmen.. If 360 is making them more money, they will focus on them. I’m pretty sure all of us would do the same thing… we wouldn’t want to be hypocrites.

This is much more entertaining than whatever is on TV right now.
Sure I experience a little bit more lag now and more host ended games as well as a decrease it seems in hit detection but this game is still better than anything else right now(and will be even when SOCOM comes out).
Rob doesn’t have to say anything on here if he doesn’t want to…be glad he says what he does.

i love going to defuse the bomb on search and destroy when the game is tied and your in over time right after you kill the last person and everyone from the soon to be losing team leaves and you dont get to win the match it ends in a draw ….. I’ve got a novel, refreshing, and simple breathtaking idea. Since you specialize in Public relations, and you are the Director of Communications, and for self-interest you obviously want ps3 users to buy the maps, why don’t you BRIBE US with actually answering our questions.
You would be surprised the number of people that are having problems justifying putting another dollar into your pocket, and how many of those who would have no qualms putting said dollars into your pocket if you actually responded to the problems many ps3 users are experiencing.
But hey, like has been said time and time again, we’re not Xboxers, so it doesn’t affect you (unless you actually like making money, and having good customer relations). So you probably won’t respond to any of the issues/questions I or my fellow ps3 users have posted repeatedly. Prove me wrong. Please.

Screw new maps….whats the point if the game is being ruined by hackers. I would be happy to wait longer for the maps if you guys were trying to fix the security flaws, but somehow I doubt that.

TheMastor I to agree. I love the way people who are useless at this game always go, “Oh I killed him but he didn’t die”. How about you didn’t kill him he was quicker. When someone (like me :)) comes along and nails their head they probably justify it with, “Oh well he’s a hacker, there wasn’t much I could do”. Haha gives meaning to the saying ignorance is bliss. Oh and turn off juggernaut, it helps.

True… Especially if one believes that lag/latency issues doesn’t affect this game. Sure, a lot of players blame every loss on lag/latency but most of us can tell the difference. Skill levels doesn’t vary do they? If you suck you suck and if you’re good your good. If I get 25 kills one game, and ZERO in the game after and again 25 kills in the 3rd game, playing the same people, what is the reason? Being ignorant I blame it on network conditions…

This stinks. release date is no put ack again, you can find hardly if any information about delays, progression etc of new maps online it makes me furious, I have bought every call of duty IW has released and PS 1 & 2 were always the flavour of IW with the old titles, they were well looked after by sony for the privelage aswell. Now x-box 360 arrives and Sony is dumped! IW will relly have to pull something out of their arse to impress me now.
The online funtionality for the PS3 is crap, it’s full of glitches and not stable. It ouldn’t surprise me if the maps for PS3 simply get binned. As has already been stated by another poster GTA is out the end of the month, who’s gonna wanna download the maps when that games out.
Fear the worst folks the maps aren’t coming I wager.

Does it really matter anymore? We will all be getting GTA 4 in 2 weeks, then We get haze on May 20th, then MGS4 on June 12th, then Resistance 2 on June 23rd. Call of Duty 4 will be dead on the ps3 in just 2 short weeks, so there is no point to come here looking to see what 402 doesnt answer. 2 more weeks then IW loses all their once faithful ps3 fans.

Because XBOX is not big in Europe. If you have not figured it out yet, Infinity Ward truly only cares about the XBOX community. Anything they say to the contrary is simply blowing smoke up your ass. Actions speak louder than words, and IW does not have much to say about the PS3.
