According to the NPD figures which were released today, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has officially sold over 9 Million copies worldwide since it’s release!
In addition, the Variety Map Pack we recently released on Xbox Live and soon to be released on PS3 in a week; has broke Xbox Live Marketplace records pulling down over 1 Million downloads within it’s first 9 days. Not to mention pulling down Xbox Live Marketplace in the process when it launched.
Some cool numbers we pulled recently to see just how much gameplay that actually is, shows that Xbox LIVE members played more than 30 million sessions and logged over 30 million hours of gameplay!! We’re talking 1.9 billion minutes logged in the first 9 days!!
If you don’t have the Variety Map Pack yet it’s currently available on Xbox Live Marketplace for 800 MS Points and will be hitting the PSN store on April 24th wordwide for $9.99 and includes four new multiplayer maps.
I knew we had a huge loyal community and it’s always cool to pull specific numbers to quantify just HOW large it actually is. Also, don’t forget tomorrow night is the Xbox LIVE Fire Weekend for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare where you can play with the team here at Infinity Ward and myself from 3 - 6 pm PST (6 - 9 pm EST) as well as sign up to win a signed Xbox 360 Elite (which I have next to me right now here in my office) among other prizes. I really hope these positive numbers encourage future DLC for the game.
Here are some ideas for some new real world weapons for the game.
The M110 Semiautomatic Sniper Rifle w/supressor.
The M26 12 Gauge Modular Accessory Shotgun System.
-5 Rounds attatches to an M4 like a grenade launcher.
The XM320 Grenade Launcher.
-5 round, night sight and laser finder. A stand alone grenade launcher would be very cool.

I would like to see you post all the PS3 members on this site that complain about everything about this game and swear off IW forever , that do in fact purchase the Variety map pack for PS3. Oh, by the way, nice con job on slipping in a change of release for our brothers overseas. The original announced date according to yesterday for the EU version was May 1st, the new date in this entry is May 4th.
Sneak that in with a postitive post, hope nobody notices. Kind of like how you went for a month without announcing what was actually in the patch (and still haven’t), so you don’t have to actually say host migration wasn’t included. And in the meantime, continue to pretend that nobody is having any issues with the game, while pretending you want our questions and comments.

You know what “community loyalty” really is? It’s the people who realize this is a *game* (not life and death), who play it for hrs and hrs, and actually allow themselves to *enjoy* it.
Then they put it away and get on with their lives, instead of whining on internet forums about the same things each day, pretending they actually know anything about the video game industry, or marketing.
Life isn’t fair. You chose a particular platform over another, and you have to live with the stipulations and decisions that come along with it. Xbox360 is where the money is, and that’s where the focus is. Deal with it.
The game is a smash success to everyone except people whining on gaming forums. There’s a reason some of you twits are ignored over and over again.

Didn’t know that communism was THAT popular in the gaming community. Maybe this is IW’s fault for having the Red Star visible in the game… Screw market economy and let the goverment take over the evil capitalist Microsoft. Well where do I start????? I have many friends that are on their 3 or so x-box. My best friend’s son had his 4 months and it died the other day. X-box cost just as much as a PS3 after you have to buy all of the extra stuff to bring it up to speed. And with more games coming out that are gonna be exclusive to PS3 and and the certain death of HDD, x-box will soon lose the market to PS3.

Well time will tell if Xbox loses it’s market to PS3, i used to have a PSone, PSP & PS2 and i never dreamt of converting to xbox but i waited so long for the PS3 to come out and i converted to Xbox and i wish i had only done it sooner. My mates have done the same and won’t go back either
Online play is the way to go and the PS3 will never match the xbox for that.

Mlg recently wrapped up their meadowlands lan event which was attended by THOUSANDS of gamers. Cod4 was not played at this even because of the horrible lan setup.

You’re the idiot. First of all, for making stats up off the top of your head. I’m not going to quote a figure, because I don’t know what it is exactly, but I guarantee you it’s much more than 10% piracy from the comments of those in the industry.
Second, each year demographics show more and more adults buying and playing consoles. It’s no longer the kiddie market that arrogant PC users like to keep pretending it is.
Wake up and smell reality. No one is saying PC shouldn’t get support, but we are NOT the priority platform anymore. We don’t bring in the most money. We’re whiney and demanding, and generally a pain in the ass in terms of development time/costs/variables.

I stopped playing games on my PC cause I :
a. Didn’t want to upgrade my video card every year. It never seems to be good enough for the next game that comes out.
b. Didn’t want to deal with DirectX version conflict hell.
c. Don’t want to deal with the random DRM issues and antipiracy measures all these games stick on your personal computer. Steam, etc. Orange box is so much cleaner on my console - thank you.
d. Deal with conflicts arising from having other games installed.
e. Help nvidia/ati work out the bugs in their drivers on my dime.
That’s why I only buy games for xbox 360 and ps3, I got tired of issues that arose on my machine from installing a bunch of game crap.
I’m in IT and I don’t want to have to support my computer when I get home - just to play some games. I fix systems 8 hours a day - I just want one that plays a damn game - is speedy - and I don’ have to worry about future stability on. QA is so much easier when there’s a closed system.
I want the game, I don’t want a headache on my machine. We have to deal with enough XP and Vista headaches as it is.

Consider yourself lucky then. With the vast amounts of different vid cards, disc drives, punkbuster, A/V programs, firewalls, routers, directX, mice/gamepads/keyboards, sound cards, etc, etc, a big percentage of PC gamers have run into significant issues over the yrs. There are just too many variables/components involved. It’s a pain for not only the PC user, but also the developers and QA as they’re building the game.
Safeword is bang-on…Consoles are gaining popularity because they are a closed system (at least for now they are). And they’re getting powerful enough to rival mid-range PC’s, which most users have anyway. This is yet another reason we’re seeing more of an exodus away from PC-gaming. Unless the PC industry realizes this, and puts out some sort of standardized system guaranteeing that certain components (hardward and software) will work together, I don’t see this decline changing in the near future.

Just to congratulate all those who bought our Eggbox 360 enabling us to begin dominate the gaming world and make billions of $ £ in the process by making game developers write all there products for our consoles an F***k everyone else.
Don’t get us wrong we love the PC gamers to because 95% of them are using Windows XP/Vista on their PC’s but we don’t make enough money from them because they don’t pay £40 for a game like the Eggbox players.
Remember “We love you”………But we love your money and our power more.

Xbox360 dev kits are much easier to work with. Then again, this isn’t surprising; back when PS2 dev kits first came out, we had a helluva time with them too.

This is capitalism at its finest, but am I the only one concerned that its ten dollars. Not that I can’t afford it, but is this going to be the trend with DLC. Many companys charge little or nothing for DLC. Epic and UT3 for example released their map pack for free and PC gamers will likely never pay anything for DLC. IW is going to make a butt load off these maps if we all endorse them. However it is a two sided deal. If we buy them, it will encourage developers to continue to make and distribute DLC, which is great, and if we don’t, it will discourage them. Its all economics and we as gamers have the opportunity to dictate what we will and won’t accept. I won’t pay until its at a price that I feel its worth. And until the major flaws are fixed, its certainly not worth it to me. I’m not pointing fingers at 402 because I know you’re just doing your job and I understand, but IW has dropped the ball. I’m just saying that if you as a gamer don’t like the treatment you are receiving then don’t continue to endorse this company until you feel that you are satisfied with the service. IW will get the message if we hit them where it counts.

How is my information incorrect? People said he always posts in every forum except the PS3 forum and I was just proving otherwise. It may not be in the most timely manner but he does seem to get around to some things. I’m sure he passes on the relevant info to the dev team who then decides how and when to address each issue. I’m just tired of the complainers who expect the devs to hold our hands through the whole process. Everything will be here in due time. The DLC is coming soon, the patches will come, and all will be well again. If you don’t like how things are run then you are not obligated to hang around. Good day.

Well, the truth comes out.
What he doesn’t see is that because of his behaviour, you could replace every reference to “PS3″ and “Playstation” with “COD4,” and “Sony,” with “IW” and you’d have how many ps3 users are feeling right now.
We knew you were biased 402. I’d like to say this is surprising, but it’s not. You could have at least had the sense not to leave that up if you’re going to use this blog as a source of info for COD4 users.
Someone should forward those to Sony.

Was written in April 2007. So both of these were written while he was employed with IW. And while this may seem to be his personal blog, he has recently made this the outlet for information, neglecting to answer issues/questions on the forums and responding here instead.
Also, as the “Director of Communications” and “Community Manager” he lists as part of his contact information on the IW forums, this website. I just think it’s worth noting that 402 is publicly slamming one of his install bases, and he is supposed to be the communications person. In fact, he is the only contact I’ve ever been able to find for IW (his e-mail), which is what led me to this site in the first place.

I see you guys are getting all up in arms regarding that over 2 yr old post so … Do you guys really think my personal feelings on a gaming console from over two years ago has any influence or impact on updates or anything development related today (or even then)?
Let’s not be insane, and let’s not hate on freedom of speech. For the record, I have a Ps3 in my game room now and love quite a few games for it (CoD4 obviously, Drake’s Fortune is awesome, WarHawk is fun as hell). Seriously, pulling up 2 year old quotes. Come on guys.
What about the post from two years ago where I talk about being on my 3rd 360 because it red ringed and my rant about that? I’m a person, I get frustrated with things, I rant on my blog. It’s what I do. Does it mean that’s my feeling today or even an hour from posting that three years ago, no it doesn’t. It especially doesn’t mean it has any influence on anything other than my mood at the time of posting.
Conspiracy theories are always more entertaining and fun, I get that, but the truth behind delays between platforms is typically boring and simple. We simply don’t have the bandwidth in QA to test multiple platforms at the same time after launch. After the launch of a game most development studios, including us, cut down the size of their QA depts because the work load is less among other things.

i have cod4 on 360 and pc but when theres no info for patches i dont worry about it i just do something else with my time dont gotta come up on this blog and start name calling 402 because he said were getting info on whatever console you think maybe he just hasnt heard anything about it or like he said they cut back on QA so it takes longer to test things. Just do something else until theres concrete info.
