I wanted to keep you guys in the loop on how the Map Contest is rounding out for all the PC mappers waiting to submit their maps. We had hoped to start accepting submissions by now but regretfully (as typically happens) the legal required participants to be US only which was unacceptable for us. So we’ve been working on making it open to worldwide participants which requires quite a bit more legal / contest rule work due to the different laws and regulations in each country.
We could have launched it and made it US only but I know we have a fantastic worldwide community of mappers that would have got severely screwed if it was that way and I won’t let that happen. So that’s what’s holding things up right now. The good news is submissions should be starting THIS WEEK as we’re in the final stages of chasing down our international legal department. Once we have it all confirmed, I hope to have the submission page linked here for you so you can start sending in your custom maps for the contest.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns and I’ll answer what I can.
As for the 1.6 patch which was going through test, we found a critical bug during QA which broke kill cams when playing with mods among other things which put a hold on it and put it back in development. We’re continuing to evaluate it and looking into releasing it when the map pack potentially hits PC. I’ll keep you updated as it progresses, but right now it won’t be coming out anytime soon while we track down this bug.

@OperatorPerry: No tweaking will be done. That’s all up to the map designer who submits it. That’s part of making a winning map.
As for the exact prizing, that will be announced with submissions. There’s a nice mix of prizes in there that you guys are going to love and a great reward for making a great map.

I concur. The explanation given above about the patch delay, and why the map contest is taking so long is good, IMO. Even though some people will always complain, solid info helps to combat the speculation and conspiracy theories.
402 - if at all possible, some facts and information on the status of the DLC maps for PC would be very useful and help cut down on the flames, rants, and negative speculation we’re seeing on various forums.

While Patch 1.6 is held up due to bug fixing, i think it would be a good idea to slip a couple extra fixes in their, silenced G3 blunt knife glitch being one.
Remember, little details like that can make the difference between a well recieved patch, and a sour taste in PC gamers mouths.
After all, if all the 1.6 patch contains is the same bug fixes as the console feature patches (that had to go though certification) had, and were released much sooner, then that doesn’t give much credibility to the “PC patch goes though testing faster” explanation.
The server browser needs multiple improovements, a friends list and better search options to name a few.
This isnt a jab at IW or any of its employees, but i held the highest opinion of IW during and after the release of CoD4, and its a shame i cant say the same thing now after so much shameless delaying and platform favoritism.
I was convinced IW was up their with the likes of Valve, but the recent post release support and community communication has regretably dragged it down closer to the likes of DICE.

The fact that the sway bug is still there after 6 month is quite appaling. It cant be that hard to fix either since modders have done it?

fourzerotwo - I really think something needs to be done with regards to kicking people out of a room, like a majority vote or something. If a person receives more than 6 ‘kicks’ then they should be booted. On all platforms I have experienced some very ennoying people destroying a good game, ie team killing, not playing the game, racist abuse and constant swearing etc. The racism, if picked up by the media, could be a massive problem for playing any game on line. I find the majority of trouble makers are Americans who are constantly screaming and being racist, as an African American myself I encounter a racist experience every day online and I am considering some kind of legal action.
Otherwise im happy with the DLC on the XBOX Live so far, its absolutely GREAT. The double XP weekend that actually lasted 5 days was also a bonus.

I did have a pretty sweet map going, but got way too carried away with it (i.e. shading, ect). The file was crossing the 75mb threshold. Is there to be a file size limit?
And, JUM - we didn’t neccessarily get off on the right foot, but we don’t allow racism of any kind on our server. Too bad you guys have to put up with that on consoles. Racism = insta ban on a plethora of PC servers.

Seems like you’re back tracking a little bit here, at first it was potential, then it was said that it’s coming, but you’re ironing out logistics, now its back to potential.
I think it’s time to stop beating around the bush and let us know if we’re getting it or not. You’re not making anymore friends by keeping it a secret, if we’re not getting it, you might as well just let us know so we can move on and stop anticipating it.
If we are getting it, just announce it, make it official already, we don’t care about dates or logistics or delivery methods, I think the point that everyone is trying to make is IW’s real lack of communication with the PC users, which has always been an issue, which is also why they hired you to help relieve the pressure, so to speak.
I respect your need to keep things quiet until official news is announced, but I think it’s time you strongly recommend to your higher ups that we get something rolling as far as an announcement for the PC.

I’m not even freaking out about getting them soon, I’m still enjoying the current maps (The server I’m on leaves maps out, and rotates what maps they leave out every month, which makes it nice when you play them again). Prestige Mode isn’t about money.
PC users can simply create a new profile and start over again from lvl 1 if they want. I don’t think Consoles can do that so they need Prestige Mode to keep things fresh and interesting. The only thing PC doesnt get is the fancy little icons which most users dont care about anyway. Those are just for bragging.

Please confirm that you’ve added some basic bug fixes to this game!
-P90 and M21 sprint modifiers are 1.75 instead of 1. This seriously unbalances users who carry those weapons!
-G3 Silenced Knife has a 1 second hit delay. This makes it unusable for close-up melee against moving enemies.
- AK47 damage with silencer or red dot is reduced. Come on! This was clearly a coding error from confusion with the AK74 damage variables. Reducing AK47 min damage to 20 makes it a bad weapon for Hardcore matches.
These just involve editing some text files and adjusting the numerical values. Over 5 months and no fix…
