Call of Duty 4 PC Mapping Contest

Heads up to our PC Community, most importantly our mapping community. We’ve begun accepting submissions for the Custom Community Map Contest we kicked off a while back. We’ve worked hard to open the contest up to our community worldwide (international contest laws are a pain in the ass btw). Head over to the Official Infinity Ward forums for a step by step guide to submitting your map for the contest.

    402, I know this is kind off topic here, but can you tell us generally what is going to be implemented in the 1.6 patch, other than the kill cams and potentially the new maps?

    Ok for a question….for people who havnt finished their map and wont by the end of the submission date, can there possibly be a mapping contest later in the future??

    I’m really hoping you guys are shooting for the stars on this one. How’s this for a scenario……..?

    The IW devs select a pool of the best user-created maps. The community then votes for the top 3 maps, which will make up the new “Community Map Pack”. This pack would be given as free DLC to all platforms.

    Who’s in? :)

    OMG so everyone has to start a new map from scratch?

    I am unable to enter the map i built specificaly for the competition in the time period of Feb - March 2008 because it has allready been released on this forum as instructed by 402 origionaly ???

    I spent 400+ hours building a map for your competition to find out i have to start from scratch :’(
    All my uni assignments have to be done over the next month or so and there is no way i can spend that much time building another map at the moment.

    Please 402 tell me i misenterprited the rules

    nice try phil, but 402 is now a master in the art of ignoring some words like patch, codtv, bug :D
    tbh dunno if he sets his spam filter on these words or if he s just not reading when he see this kind of comments :)
    i guess he has some kind of nda and can’t say anythin without the approval of his boss…

    @ Brian.

    We’re purely speculating, but I just can’t see them charging for maps that the community submitted. Yes, they could stand to make money, but they would also stand to lose dedicated gamers. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

    @ mattks1: There is absolutely no way (Zero chance) we’d sell user made maps. Period. :)

    Good to hear re: maps being free (I was half joking). 402, international law is just a mess in general, but I’m sure y’all discovered that. I’m sure someone lost lots of sleep trying to figure exactly what the law was relevant to this.

    Lo fourzerotwo..just wanted to ask you if PC could see Prestige mode in a future patch maybe??it would be awesome if we get it.. :)
    and i am sorry about my other post,i was just a bit upset with the patch getting delayed and no confirmation on the map pack..sorry :)

    Havoc I am pretty sure the reason there is no new prestiges is because that is how it really is. I wouldn’t know because I’m not a CoD4 Dev but a lot of people say that.

    Questions to 402:

    - Can Spanish gamers participate?
    - When the contest will be finished?
    - The winners map will be released as official maps in a future patch?
    - What about 1.6 patch? Is the bug fixed yet? What exactly will be implemented among new Kill Cams?
    - What about map pack on PC? When? How will be distributed?
    - What about prestige mode on PC? Any possibilitie to be released someday?
    - What about more server filters on server browser?

    Please, can you answer this questions… or at least some of them?

    I don’t think prestige mode for PC is necessary. Just add I,II,III,IV after your name. Who cares if you have some symbol next to your name anyway.

    Other thoughts. We’ll get the map pack eventually, but IW needs to maximize profit from the consoles first. On that note, we will likely be getting them free, so they’re waiting as not to cause an insurrection among the console users. IW realizes that if they charge PC users for the map pack they wouldn’t make much money. They might sell 100 copies, the rest will be pirated faster than you can say iamfourtwozero.

    I’m glad to hear that the maps will be free, but do you guys have a general ballpark figure as to when these new maps will come out? I might have missed it , but how many maps do you guys intend on excepting to make into a map pack? Also any chance for a weapons pack ??? The last one would be effen sweet cotten!!!

    I’m a 10th prestige and right now theres nothing else to work for except for headshots for my golden weapons. Has I.W. been thinking about new things for players who have reached there 10th prestige????

    @Wildcat,
    What you stated in your comment is the reason why PC users are on the bottom of the totem pole. I’m willing to bet that PC users only make up less than 10% of game sales anyway. Game companys are always going to caiter to cosole users first, because thats where the dough ray me is. Sucks to be you!!!!!!!!

    I bought the PC version because I couldn’t get the PS3 version to work. I love COD4 and wish all the custom map makers luck in creating awesome maps.

    A couple questions for 402.

    1) Will the maps made by users for PC only be available for PC users, or would they possibly be distributed to the consoles?

    2) Will it ever be possible to play ALL the online multiplayer maps, offline? Like in split screen? I’m disappointed that I can’t play overgrown in split screen!

    2a) Are the 4 maps coming out today available to play in split screen?

    I’m not an ass for speculating xyz. Why would anyone think I know more than 402. What a rude comment. Historically, unless it’s a true expansion, PC users get content free. That’s the bottom line.

    And Kim, it’s not all that bad. I enjoy playing on a custom server where I can use a silencer and red dot sight! Plus, some of the custom maps already out there are well done too.

    I don’t care that you have a map pack, so flame on buddy. If I even had a newer console, I would still be playing CoD4 exclusively on PC. I am thinking about picking up a console for GTA, NCAA football… ect. though.

    HELLOOO, HELLOOO, USER CREATED! Meaning people who play the game made them! Meaning for iw to sell them would probably be pi*sing all over copyright laws, and opening themselves up for countless lawsuits! Jeesus some people..

    The thought of this mapping contest is very nice, but i think the rules should have been posted before, not after the community created their maps and the legal things should be clarified.
    A little more preparation next time ; )
