Microsoft’s Major Nelson has posted up his weekly update of the ‘Top Games on Xbox Live’ again and I’m happy to say for the time being (and the past months), Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is strongly holding the #1 spot of the most played game.
As we all know, GTA IV hit today, so I expect to see it forcing it’s way up the list in the next few weeks and excited to see how it takes Halo 3’s place as our biggest friendly competitor for the Top Spot of the most played game on Xbox Live. We fought hard to secure and keep the #1 spot for over four months now, and I’m excited to see how quickly GTA IV rises up the list.

CoD4 will hold the top spot until Battlefield:Bad Company and Gears of War 2 come out, then it’s game over for CoD4 because Battlefield and GoW2 are amazing and far more addictive than CoD4, of course I know this because I’ve already played them to death, even thought they’re not out yet and I’ve only read preview information (designed to hype the game) like everyone else!

It’s a pity Sony don’t, as of yet, have a way to track PS3 traffic, as you know it’s the most played game on the PS3 aswell.
As for the PC guys wanting more support: I was reading over on PSU.com that Crytek are looking to step away from PC’s as their main focus, due to torrent/ripped copies “hurting” PC gaming. This is a platform wide problem, so I’m not suprised to see a lack of support from Infinity Ward, as with illigal downloads taking a huge slab of profit away from the PC sales, developement companies stand to make more profit from consoles as games are harder to rip.

How about better support for match-making.
Not sure how it works, but I know that I have 11Mb down and 1Mb up connection and am GD tired of the latency issues and hit detection problems. Perhaps it is not an IW problem that there is lag, but certainly you can do a better job of not letting the a$$holes with NetZero host a f$ck$ng game.

as for crytek, maybe they should just go cry in the corner…. Crysis kinda sucked, what did they expect you to do? buy a 3000 dollar pc to max out the settings? IMO not well though out…
cod4 on the other hand was designed to support pc’s of a lower caliber…and still knock your socks off as far as graphix go…
As far as piracy goes… I do not belive it is a company crushing issue atm…although it is a major problem that needs to be adressed by developers… I think it is kinda funny that these developers complain about piracy when they do little to help stop it…

People have been talking about wanting Killhouse added to the other gametypes this since the 360 maps were released. The silence from IW and fourzerotwo is very frustrating, and unfortunately has become the norm. Even a simple “No” would be nice, because it would mean they acknowledge the fact that we’re voicing our concerns.

Sadly its very true- I was wondering the other day why GTA4 slapped us in the face- because I still remember the first 2D PC only GTA- and now its Console only.
But then it hit me- Hot Coffee- They got COMPLETELY Owned by that- they had 2 Recall all copys of the game- and slab a “AO” rating on their game- Got sued up the ass- sued the modder and lost- they lost SO much money. And know why?
Because a PC modder was able to open up their Easter Egg
This prob made them Pissed @ PC users and decided- no modding on console- lets make console only.
I learned that ALL companies only care about money money money
It was so clear with CoD1 that the only thing on IW’s mind was to make the community happy, which they did
Everything we complained about, they fixed via patch- and even added 4 new maps via patches
Now the PC community is screaming about the problems with CoD4 on IW’s forums- and they are being ignored. Most of the problems are just typos like G3 knife bug
All IW cares about in their patches is killing mod tools (1.5) and adding a new kill cam feature
At least IW still gives their PC community a console port- most are just turning console only

I’m curious to know just how well the Steam version is doing. I know piracy is a big issue for you guys. I actually bought my game retail (well, technically I got it as a Christmas gift) but many of my friends have bought the game on Steam.
Call of Duty 4 is one of the top sellers on Steam atm. So just how well is it doing?

Have you actually looked at the current state of PC gaming? It’s not propoganda to highlight a game developers current stance on developing games for PC’s. It’s reporting the facts and while I may not of provided a direct link, I did provide the site that I found the news was reported on.
Have you sat down to consider why so many developers are shifting across to Steam? It’s not just because it’s a central platform. It’s because they offer a secure way to retail software, as games purchased via Steam are monitored by Steam, you can’t play the game without being online and connected to the Steam client/servers. Crytek aren’t the first company to reconsider their stance in the market, if they were then Steam wouldn’t be such a huge force as it currently is and the “PC Gaming Alliance” wouldn’t of formed to try to “save” PC gaming.
MP3’s damage the music industry. Big music label execs cry out and we ignore them because we don’t see what goes on behind the curtains. Game piracy damages the games industry, and we can see the effects, as when someone makes a move it’s reported on the internet. When a game is put up on torrents days before it’s official release, we get to read the blogs from the publishers, detailing how they’re disappointed and how they’re going to move to prevent further pirate copies.
Wake up, LameJoke. Regardless of how well an impression a game has on you and how well it sells in the shops, piracy still takes a huge slab out of the market, causing developers to want to invest less as they’ll see less reward.

The step towards digital downloads of the games may very well be a necessary one for the industry, I will give you that. Are you trying to tell me though that the only way is a heavy regulated Internet? Piracy will never end, do not for one minute think console games are safe from it. The biggest draw for PC gaming has always been the multi player, pirated games if made right by the manufacture, are almost impossible to play online.
What really hurts the industry, is lack of quality and responsible measures taking by the manufactures of these games to keep their games safer from piracy. PC is an open platform, games must be made accordingly.
PC games, sir, will not and can not die. Consoles are destined to evolve into PC games eventually, and I guarantee the problems that exist now will continue even then.
Turning their back on a problem, bleeding the money out of the sheeple, is not the solution to a problem.

I don’t think PC gaming is on the decline. As the Doug Lambardi article says: The big three in consoles spend a ton on PR marketing. PC gaming has and always will be more for the hardcore, rather than the casual. Now bear in mind the phenominal sales of the Nintendo Wii, and the push of the PS3 and Xbox 360 as media-hubs in a time when technology convergence is the focus of most electrical retailers. PC gaming/revenue isn’t declining, it’s simply being eclipsed.

Equal to consoles? I’m sure you meant that consoles will be equal to PC’s. Won’t ever happen though because even when they first launch consoles are always at least a generation behind PC’s in terms of up-to-date technology. Hate to break it to you but consoles will not be replaced by PC’s anytime soon. People buy consoles because they are cheaper than PC’s and are guaranteed to last them for years. At least that’s why I buy consoles.

402, I know you’re a busy person, but please get on Charlieoscardelta.com more. The game is utterly lacking any support from the developers, you IW, and there are a huge number of problems that need to be addressed. You say in this article “We fought hard to secure and keep the #1 spot for over four months now” and I can’t believe that. Compared to other developers, you guys have shown no support. You made the best game, but it’s gonna die without any support to hold it up. I’m thinking the reason you guys haven’t been showing any support is because you think you don’t need to. As long as CoD4 keeps the #1 spot on Xbox Live, you feel like you can ignore the fan base and the many problems CoD4 currently has that need to be fixed. I personally hope that GTA4 beats out CoD4 in Xbox Live, just so that you guys will wake up. On behalf of the entire CoD4 community, show some dedication to the people who truly matter, the players.

Having now played GTA4 I am not impressed, the single player game is good but the online mulyiplayer does not compare to COD4 IMO. On GTA4 you can have a car or helicopter but its not as authentic or even slightly as tactical as COD4. I will complete GTA4 then I’ll continue playing cod4 online, its much much much better. GTA4 has alot of loading screens too which really get on my nerves!

To be anti-PC in todays world would be stupid. The technology in modern games consoles is based on or inspired by PC hardware. I’ve never got into PC gaming though, as the constant upgrade cycle needed to play games at their best setting, puts me off. Consoles evolve by generation, replacing the entire unit. PC’s evolve by component, replacing seperate parts,which in the long run often comes at greater expense.
So I’m not anti-PC, I’m just not hardcore enough for that gaming path.

I agree 100%. Success is about your fans (the players.) And without you showing them any appreciation (fixing what needs fixed, acknowledging their concerns - even if they will not be patched/enhanced); without these signs of fan appreciation, COD4 consumers may think twice about the next IW product purchase.
Perhaps IW might be wise to consider:
a.Fixing host selection for both consoles (two many times the person hosting the game has a Net-Zeroish crap connection and I find myself need to shoot five feet in front on someone in order to kill them.)
b.Fixing host migration issues on PS3
c. Adding rumble support for PS3
d. Doing some easy things, like better Killhouse presence in the map rotation on both consoles.
e. Provide more timely updates/maps for PC.
f. Give the community more maps. (yeah I know, we just got four, but I come from what was once known as the real world, where it doesn’t take a company like IW 4 months to produce four maps… one per month… kinda pathetic if you ask me.)
g. Fixing the local match making process that a lot of the European/Aus players are having problems with.
This list is just a brief compilation of most common complaints that I think IW should provide some sort of official release regarding (and perhaps get to work on?)
COD4 is an awesome game. IW has created a game that has transcended its genre. Having been a fan of FPS since before the PC had 256 color graphics, I applaud IW for their innovation and creativity; however, IW would be wise to consider that success often breeds imitation and the next company in line may pay better attention to their fans.
I raise my cup to you IW! Congratulations on creating what is indisputably the best game ever made…. for now.

I sincerely recommend that FourZeroTwo has a very, very long chat with some reputed members of the community. I/We are starting to lose faith in IW’s ability to fix/change anything, even things that they broke in the patch.
We just want to KNOW what’s going on.
It irritates me so much that this great game is going to go to waste thanks to IW’s… laziness? I’m not sure what it is, but it’s just not good enough.

Rodelero, I’ll tell you what it is - 402 isn’t paid to care about what we say. He’s paid to try to make IW look good by posting about how awesome COD4 is on his blog and about how it’s the game of the year and that it’s #1 on XBox 360. That’s his job. He’s not paid to listen to the community or care about anything we say, and that’s why 99% of our suggestions, complaints, and feedback falls on deaf ears here, at the IW forums and on Charlie Oscar Delta.

Lol, who are we all kidding, GTA IV will kill off COD4’s claim to the throne, and it will never retake it place. GTA will now for a long time rule the psn. I have played COD4 from my stats, 10 full days. I have now played GTA online for just about half an hour and can already see that it is the game i wanna play now. But saying that COD4 is obviously the best shooter of all time, and was/is still great.

I was playing CoD4 yesterday afternoon, the veriaty map playlists (hardcore mainly) and found myself becoming bored, so I started to think about why. It’s not “fresh” anymore, it’s the same routines, the same fire-fights. Consoles lack the ability to create “user content”, “user created content” that inspires and gives birth to communities of modders and hardcore players.
There are a rare few FPS’s that seem to have the ability to last, Half Life, Counter Strike, Unreal Tournament, to name a few, And they’re all PC based. They last longer than anything else because of their community, because of their “mod-ability” which keeps altering the game-play and making it fresh. The only exception to the rule (that I can think of) is Halo 2. But with that in mind, I think Infinity Ward really should reconsider their current stance on PC support if they want CoD4 to have the same lastability as the PC based FPS-greats. Even if it’s just to say “we’re doing this, but it won’t be ready for awhile as we’ve found this problem, but we’re working on it” would be nice. This side of the market (The PC side) is driven by community, and if a company isn’t willing to support the hardcore side of it’s community, then it’s surely hammering nails into it’s own coffin.

Personally, I think IW just really doesn’t care. They COULD listen to us and they aren’t busy enough to the point where they don’t have time to listen to us, they just choose not to. IW has grown lazy. GTA4 NEEDS to knock COD4 out of its #1 Xbox Live position so that IW says “Whoa?! Wtf just happened?! We need to make our game better! I thought sitting on our asses all day would fix the game for us!”
Obviously trying to talk to 402 doesn’t work. His Meebo says he’s always offline, but in reality, I bet he’s online half the time the Meebo says he isn’t. He just doesn’t want to have to confront the users until he has a written speech from the higher-ups of IW that he can look to which talks about how they’re working on all the problems, when they really aren’t.

PS: GTA4 was really overhyped…..just like Halo 3 and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 were.
I rented it and still have it in my possesion, and it’s a really good game, but it’s more for fun, not competition. Also, just like all the other GTA games, it gets boring REAL quick. After the first few weeks this game comes out, I predict the average gamer will touch this game maybe 3-5 times a week.

About the whole PC vs. Console thing, this debate has been done too many times. In short, PC is better for gamers who have a lot of money and free time, while gaming consoles are better for the gamers who don’t want to constantly pay money just to play games for a long time.

COD was the absolute shit! I loved it and constantly played it when I wasn’t at work or with my girlfriend. Now that GTA is out, I don’t know when I’ll get back to playing some COD. Maybe when they get some host migration for PS3, maybe when Killhouse makes more of an appearance, but most likely when I can pick up a hooker for health, or watch Katt Williams do some comedy, or take a cab to the other side of the map. GTA just crushed every other video game I’m sorry to say. No hating here, I did love COD, but I don’t know when I’ll honestly be motivated enough to play it again.

Why all the hate i own wii ps3 360 and i have a pretty darn good pc and i would have to disagree with you K1LL3R. pc to me is better i own it on pc and 360 and the controls are just better on pc i do like 360 for having prestige and being able to have leaderboards but 360 also has aim assist which why i like it better for pc no need for aim assist.
But as of right now i play it more on 360 just cause im bored of the stock maps and i just want to play the variety maps.
